Falls Mill Field Trips
April 15th (Brown and Geis)
"Water Power and Pioneers"
This trip consists of a tour through a historical grist mill built in 1873, highlighting the use of water power. Students explore what life was like for pioneers traveling west, including sluicing for minerals and participating in a "Pioneer Adventure" activity. A gift shop is available.
Buses will depart at approximately 8:15am and arrive back at school at approximately 2:00pm. Students will need a sack lunch. Permission forms will go home soon.
Other Dates
April 22: No school (weather day)
April 29: 4th grade Panoply Field Trip
May 2-6: ACT Aspire testing (Please try not to schedule appointments until after 12:00pm each day this week.)
May 20: Field Day
May 26: Last Student Day
2016 Pioneer Day was a SUCCESS! Thank you to all parents and teachers for helping make this a memorable day for our 4th graders.
We started our day singing folk songs together!
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING THIS WEEK
ELA:
RL 4.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text (mythology
RL 4.2 Identifying the theme of a story.
L4.5 Demonstrate understanding of figurative language and word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
L4..3a Choose words to convey ideas precisely
Refer to assignment sheet for spelling list.
MATH:
4.MD.5-Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement.
4.MD.5a-An angle is measured with reference to a circle with its center at the common endpoint of the rays by considering the fraction of the circular arc between the points where the two rays intersect the circle. An angle that runs through 1/360 of a circle is called a “one degree angle” and can be used to measure angles.
4.MD.5b-An angle that turns through n one degree angles is said to have an angle measure of n degrees.
4.MD.6-Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor. Sketch angles of specified measure.
4.MD.7-Recognize angle measure as additive. When an angle is decomposed into non-overlapping parts, the angle measure of the whole is the sum
of the angle measures of the parts. Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by using an equation with a symbol for the unknown angle measure.
