A Note From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Hello, everyone, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! As we look forward to being back together at school on Monday, January 4th, I wanted to follow up with the message that you received from the superintendent's office earlier today.

In the previous message, you heard, "Plainfield Community School Corporation leadership, in conjunction with Town of Plainfield and Plainfield Police officials, met on December 30th in preparation for the beginning of school on Monday, January 4th. Precautionary measures have been put in place, and additional officers will be utilized for extra security at all Plainfield schools."

As this message says, for the first week of school (January 4-8) , we will have enhanced police presence in our school. This will probably not seem any different to our students, as we have an officer in our building every day already, but the time will be extended. We are blessed to be in a community where the police work so closely with us. The district has gradually increased the security presence in the schools over the last several years, with the support and cooperation of the Plainfield Police. While this new increase in hours may make us "feel better" given the recent threats at the high school, it has been in the works for some time. I am happy and grateful that it has been granted now and will remain in effect through the rest of the year.

In addition to that, we will have indoor recess the first week of school. We hope that this will ease the transition for everyone back into our regular school schedule.

Please remember that NO threats have been made toward anyone in our school. As always, the safety and security of all students and staff is our top priority. As the "P" in PRIDE says, we "put safety first" at Clarks Creek and will continue to do so now and in the future.

I look forward to seeing all of our students and staff back for a great beginning to the new year on Monday, January 4th!

Mrs. Donovan

Our annual Santa Shop was an amazing success! Thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped our students. A special thank you to Susan Andersch and Amy Monteleone for being the heads of this event. It was a great experience for our students who were able to learn about the "value of a dollar" and purchase some outstanding gifts for family and friends!

Spirit Wear orders are in. Orders that were identified as "pick up" will be in the office. Any remaining orders will be sent home with students by the end of the week. Thank you to everyone who has placed an order. This is a great way to support the school, as well as show your school spirit.

PTO regretfully informs you that Alicia Berg will no longer be our Financial Secretary. We'd like to thank Alicia for her service to our organization and our school. In accordance with the PTO bylaws, the PTO board unanimously has elected Ashley Wilbur to fill this position. Ashley expressed her interest in the beginning of the school year to run for a board position in the 2016-2017 school year and was willing to step into this position for the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year.

Attendance Award

Congratulations to Ms. Miller's class, who won our first school-wide contest for the highest percentage of classroom attendance! The large trophy you see in the middle, will be traveling to the winner's classroom each month, where they will take a class photo. Ms. Miller's class had an attendance rate of over 99% (!!!) when they won this trophy. We appreciate all of our students and families who work so hard to ensure that our students are with us each and every day! Research shows much greater achievement for students who have excellent attendance records, so keep up the good work!

Congratulations to these staff members who were notified that they have received a Legacy Foundation grant: Kristen Fuson, Camie Broughton, Jessica Markowitz, Kevin Johnson. You may remember that the Legacy Foundation provides scholarships for students but among its other efforts, it provides grants to teachers for special projects, equipment, or opportunities that they would not otherwise be able to purchase for our students. Thanks to the Legacy Foundation and congratulations to our recipients!

All-School Reward - BOOMER!

Our entire school works to earn PRIDE credits both for individual recognition in the form of PRIDE bands that students earn, but also as a combined group for an all-school reward when we fill up our large "credit collector." Our reward this time was a convocation with the Pacers' mascot, Boomer, as the special guest! He shared info about always doing our best and staying healthy, in addition to "wowing" us with a dunk show! Congratulations to all of our students for working so hard in showing their PRIDE to help our school earn this special reward! You can see some of the pictures from this event in the gallery below.

You can enlarge any of the pictures below by clicking on them.

See below for some great pictures of our convocation with Boomer, the first grade field trip to the Children's Museum, making gingerbread houses, and second grade kindness chains.
