HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

On May 8, 2022, we here in the United States celebrate Mother's Day. Mothers around the world are to be celebrated everyday for their nurturing, caring, strong, intelligent and supportive qualities that they demonstrate routinely, without fanfare and parades. To all TABSE mothers, we gentlemen acknowledge you and say thank you and WE Love you!

National Teacher Appreciation Week

The first week of May (1-7), 2022, is National Teacher Appreciation Week. You all, as educators, are recognized for your year long love and care which you exude to your students and/or colleagues. The national recognition is only a small token of appreciation which educators deserve. During the height of the Covid pandemic crisis, when students were virtually home taught, parents received real clear pictures of what teachers endure and master daily in the classrooms of 20 or more students on a daily basis. Thank you all for your dedication and love of students and their success. You are truly appreciated and thanked for your commitment to educating our future leaders.

The Shoulders We Stand On

Someone You Should Know

Dr. J. David Bowick

Dr. J. David Bowick taught in Philadelphia, Pa prior to moving to Los Angeles, California. He was principal of Manual Arts High School and an accomplished and respected educator as reported by his peers and students. His student population was 2,400 students and 300 staff members. Manual Arts High School had seven buildings on a 16-acre campus. It is reported that he believed "You can't run an inner city school from behind a desk tucked away in an office". He also believed that there were extra problems with minority schools that require a greater sensitivity and a more than 9 to 5 effort. Dr. Bowick received his Master's degree in Liturgical Music from USC. and later received his Ph. D in school administration at Claremont University in California.

Dr. Bowick, after leaving Los Angeles, moved to Houston, Texas, where he joined the Houston Independent School District in the capacity of Deputy Superintendent for Human Resources. He was in charge of the the fifth largest educational Human Resources Department in the country. He was responsible for restructuring the department and training administrators in new procedures for interviewing and hiring employees throughout the school district. During his years in Houston, he was named the first president of TABSE, as the organization formed in 1986, following the NABSE National Conference in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Bowick left Houston after a short and successful period and moved to the East Coast it is reported, but contact with him was lost following his departure from Houston. His leadership qualities were obviously some of the reasons he served as the first TABSE president. No other information could be obtained concerning Dr. J. David Bowick, for purposes of further highlighting his impressive educational career.

Summer Vacation

The school year is about to come to a close. Students have achieved various levels of achievement through the efforts of many hard working, caring, dedicated teachers, administrators and support staff personnel. The results of your efforts will impact on students as they continue to grow, learn and experience the world around them. The Covid 19 pandemic, vaccinations, national election headlines, and war, were all areas that hampered schools from being allowed to concentrate solely on the students growth and academic development. Despite the challenges, educators once again gave there best to their students in attempts to see them succeed.

During the summer months, spend some time to physically and mentally debrief from the year as you enjoy a welcomed and well deserved summer vacation.
