IB Community Project - 8th Grade Students
IB Focus/Enfoque del IB
This month's IB (International Baccalaureate) Learner Profile Attribute for October is balanced. To be balanced is to understand the intellectual, physical and emotional aspects of our lives to achieve well-being. We recognize our interdependence with other people and the world in which we live. The way that we promote this attribute at school is to provide students with a well-rounded education that includes Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Education and Dance, Design and Language Acquisition courses, in addition to the core academic areas. We also have counseling lessons regularly to teach students strategies for their emotional well-being.
Here's an article on helping your child create a more balanced lifestyle: Help your child develop with a balanced lifestyle - Parenting Hub

We also support our scholars' learning by having them focus on and continually develop their IB ATL (Approach to Learning) skills. These skills support the IB belief that a large influence on a student’s education is not only what you learn but also how you learn. This month we'll focus on Self-management. This includes helping your child manage time and tasks effectively through organization, manage their state of mind through affective skill development, as well as build up reflection skills that will aid in their reconsideration of the process of their learning.
At home you can help your child develop the attribute of being balanced by having him/her spend some time reading and some time playing outside or with puzzles or building blocks. Children can also help with making meals for the family and with other chores at home. Ask your child to talk about their feelings and discuss appropriate ways to express them.
Questions to help them include:
- How do you feel?
- What is a new activity you want to try?
- What are your interests?
- How can we create a schedule that allows you to finish the work that you need to do and the work that you want to do?
