Principal's Note
I want to thank Laura Fischer who is spending her last day as Mrs. Perkins long-term sub on Monday of next week. It has been a pleasure to have Mrs. Fischer in the building with our students. She did a great job working with our students. Mrs. Fischer will be back at PVES in January when she fills in for Mrs. Bengs while she is on maternity leave.
Finally, last Monday, the MASD School Board approved to build a secure entrance at Prairie View. This project is scheduled to happen this summer, and we hope will be done by the start of the 2019-2020 school year. We will be moving the office to the front of the school so guests need to first pass through the office to enter the rest of the building. We are excited about this project to continue to make our school safe for all students!

State Report Cards
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) creates a School Report Card and District Report Card for every publicly funded school and district in the state. These report cards can be accessed online here: http://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/report-cards. The Report Cards are intended to help all schools and districts utilize data on specific measures to target improvement efforts to ensure students are ready for the next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college, and careers. The current School Report Card is based on the 2017-2018 school year. At the foundation of the report cards are four priority areas. Schools and districts receive a score for each priority area: Student Achievement proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics on state assessments Student Growth measured by year-to-year improvements in achievement Closing Gaps in performance between specific student groups (comparing English language learners, low-income students, students with disabilities, and members of a racial or an ethnic group with their peers) On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness is a measurement using reliable predictors of high school graduation and potential post high school success The priority area scores are then aggregated into an overall accountability score, from 0 to 100. This score is displayed in the top left corner of the School or District Report Cards. It is important to note that the 0 to 100 accountability score is not a “percent correct” measurement. The score is primarily based on our performance last year across the four priority areas. Beyond the yearly state measures of schools, the full story of school success also includes schools where students are safe, happy, and engaged. At Prairie View, we strive to educate the whole child with a comprehensive curriculum and programming in art, music, physical education, and library/technology, and a host of extra-curricular activities. Results like ours involve teachers and staff that build strong relationships where students with diverse needs, talents, strengths, and interests feel valued and supported. These unique indicators, along with committed parents and guardians that support our work, communicate the whole picture of effectiveness of our schools. Thank you for all you do to work with us at Prairie View to educate the whole child. We will continue to look for ways to improve at Prairie View.

Specials Report - Gym Classes - Mr. Moser
This past month in Physical Education has been a fantastic learning experience for all! We were lucky enough to have a great student teacher in Ms. Corrao. The Prairie View students did an amazing job helping Ms. Corrao on her teaching journey. I would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Ausprung’s 3rd grade class for letting Ms. Corrao videotape her lessons with them. This will help her become an even better teacher!
With Ms. Corrao and myself teaching, we were able to do some really fun lessons for our soccer unit. Not only did students learn skills and techniques to help them become better soccer players, but they also learned valuable lessons in sportsmanship and teamwork. One of the classes favorite lessons was when Ms. C taught us game called spaghetti and meatballs. In this game students had to dribble their ball (the meatball) around students with pool noodles (spaghetti) without getting the ball knocked away.
I recently started a throwing unit with the students. In this unit, students will learn proper throwing techniques, both underhand and overhand. This is always one of my favorite units because of all the fun games we can play, like move the mountains and pin knockdown.
5th grade students just started learning about the skeletal system and the scientific names of the bones. This will be an ongoing theme for them throughout the year.
Lastly, it was great seeing a lot of parents stop down by the gym for parent teacher conferences. I enjoyed speaking with all of you!
4th Grade
When it comes to reading, just like eating, some kids can be quite picky! 4BQ’s Book Tasting was a perfect way for kids to “nibble” on a book and decide if they want to devour the whole thing!
During the tasting they were able to sample many different titles and authors in a variety of genres.
