December 9-13
This week at a glance...
Writing: We will be finishing up our informational text. This will include working on our final drafts, editing, and publishing-making our drafts into a book.
Math: We will continue our chapter on division. The students did a great job this past week realizing that division was simply breaking a group into parts. They are really enjoying discovering more about this new skill.
Science: We will continue our exploring sound through experiments, reading, and conversations.
Social Studies: We will be finishing up our chapter on settlement by discussing the establishment of slavery in SC. We will have a test on this chapter on Friday, the 13th. A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday.
Other important news:
Our winter party will be at the end of the day on Friday. A big thank you to Ms. Starnes for organizing and everyone else who is helping our class have a wonderful celebration.
DFES is sponsoring a Mitten Tree this holiday season. We are collecting new mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and socks for needy children in our area. Students may bring items in to decorate the tree in the cafeteria lobby until December 12.
As a third grader your student should be able to work independently for 20-30 minutes. We are working hard toward this goal in class. Please help your student with this while they are working at home- if they are working on homework and have a question, encourage them to think through it again on their own before giving assistance. It is essential for them to discover how to problem solve and work independently.
