The Riverview Reader
Updates For The Week of September 18
Principal's Corner
Riverview Families,
We held our Fun Run kickoff last week and our students and staff were super excited for the upcoming event that is always one of the best days of the year. Please see the information about the Fun Run below, get your child registered, and share this opportunity to donate with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else who may be interested in supporting the great things happening at RVES each day. Remember that because we do this event ourselves (and do not hire an outside organization) 100% of donated funds go directly to our PTP and right back into our school. We appreciate the love we get from our community and are extremely grateful for all you do to support our teachers and staff.
Also, if you can swing by for our Family Fun Night this Thursday night, we would love to see you. It is a major goal of ours to strengthen our school community and grow our relationships with parents and families. We hope that you can stop by on Thursday night and meet other folks in the Riverview community. And you might get to dunk your favorite teacher in the dunk tank!
Our school is better when we are all connected. Thanks again for all the support. Best wishes for a great week.
Shawn Peck
Principal

NWEA Assessments to Take Place Over the Next Few Weeks
Your child, if they are in grades 2-5, will complete NWEA assessments for math and reading in the next few weeks. They will complete the same assessment during the winter and again in the spring in order to show us whether they are making adequate progress in these important academic areas. Additionally, the results are used by our teachers to measure our own instructional practices. The growth our students show provide us with timely information to use for instructional planning and overall school improvement.
Please remember that these tests are only one source of information on student learning. Achievement tests, teacher made tests, classroom work, teacher judgment and parent judgment are also important indicators of your child’s progress. If you have any questions about this assessment or your child's results, please contact your child’s teacher.

Emergency Drills Set For This Week
We will also conduct a schoolwide lockdown drill this week. Our first "drill" was completed last week but was not done simultaneously throughout the school. Instead, each classroom held a discussion in an age appropriate manner about why these drills occur and how we need to respond when they do happen. We teach students to stop, look, and listen during emergency situations and to respond to directions from adults promptly.
Please feel free to contact principal, Shawn Peck with any questions or concerns you may have.
Make Sure Your Child is Reading At Least 20 Minutes Per Night
Reading at home is not only good for academic achievement, it is a great way to create a quiet & calm household, reduces stress & anxiety, support wellness & mental health, improve critical thinking, and promote empathetic thinking in your children. If you ever need books to support this 20 minute per night goal, please reach out to your child's teacher right away!
