Newsletter - Term 1, Week 5

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Thank you to all families who have been working with us around keeping your children safe and well. We have noticed a slight increase in the numbers of students having to be away because they may be isolating due to positive household cases. We are expecting this to continue for some weeks to come and as a school we certainly appreciate your assistance with this.
If your child becomes positive we need to send this information off to the Ministry of Education. We don't send names - rather they are interested in the number of positive cases a school has. All you need to do is contact the school by phone, email or record this information through the school absentee app mentioning that your child is positive.
Get To Know You Conferences
In week 9 of this term we will be running our 'Get to Know You' Conferences. This will be run over two afternoons. Monday, 4 April (3.00pm-6.00pm) and Tuesday, 5 April (1.00pm-6.30pm). We will be using our normal online booking system for you to make an appointment to meet your child's teacher. On the afternoon of Tuesday, 5 April school will be finishing at 12.45pm - school buses will run at this time.
Face masks and distancing requirements will be required. All adults will need to wear a mask for these conference (whether you have an exemption or not). We will be providing an alternative method of catching up (via zoom) for those who cannot make these conferences. If you would like to use zoom to meet with your child's teacher please make contact with them individually and organise a time and day that suits you both.
The aim of these conferences is for parents to share information about their child relating to wellbeing and learning. The more we know about your child, the better we can work to meet their needs.
We will also be sending out information from our student management system relating to your contact details (address, emergency contacts and contact numbers etc). It is really important that we have the most up-to-date contacts for all our families. If you can return the form along with you 'Getting to Know You' sheet to your child's class teacher then that would be greatly appreciated.
Nga mihi,
Simon Bell
COVID-19 Information - Changes to Self-Isolation
The change has been made due to up-to-date public health advice; there is a decline in infectiousness of Omicron over time and in most cases, transmission occurs within seven days.
Cases of COVID-19
Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for seven days.
Day 0 is the day symptoms begin or the day the test was taken (whichever came first). Cases will isolate for a full seven days and are free to return to normal activities on Day 8, if they are not symptomatic.
Household contact are required to isolate for the same seven days as the positive case.
They can return to their normal activities on the same day as the first case in their household, so long as all test results have been negative, and they are not symptomatic.
Household contacts should continue to self-monitor for symptoms up to Day 10.
Household contacts will be required to take a self-administered rapid antigen test (RAT) on Day 3 and Day 7 of the case's isolation period.
