Glean
Glean organizes videos for math and science according to topics and Common Core Standards. This is a great site to find educational videos to enhance a lesson or recommend individual videos to a student for homework assistance. Resource originally appeared on Free Technology for Teachers.
Vocabulary.com
Vocabulary.com is an excellent vocabulary study service offering thousands of vocabulary practice lists and activities for students in elementary and through graduate school. When you sign up for vobulary.com, students will be given an assessment quiz in order to give them suggested lists with which to start practice. After completing the assessment they can use the practice lists suggested by vocabulary.com or choose their own lists from the huge gallery of vocabulary lists. Resource originally appeared on Free Technology for Teachers.
Thinking Blocks
Thinking Blocks is a great site for math practice at the elementary and middle school level. There are pre-made templates and problems for addition, multiplication, fractions and ratios. You also have the option to create your own using the modeling tool. This site would look great on an interactive SMARTBoard. Resource originally appeared on Free Technology for Teachers.
Apps of the Week
Stick Around
Play, design and share labeling and sorting puzzles. Stick Around comes with an assortment of puzzles, including ordering decimals and classifying rocks. It's the players job to drag the stickers from the tray to their correct spots on the background before time runs out. The best feature is that you can create your very own puzzles and share them through Google Drive (receiving iPad must have Stick Around app downloaded installed in order to play). This app was created by Tony Vincent so you know it has to be good!
Chemisode for Chemistry
Chemisode for Chemistry is a free periodic table with fifteen pieces of information about each element including atomic number, molar mass, electron
configuration, lewis dot structure, melting and boiling points in three temperature scales, density
Chatter Pix Kids
Chatter Pix Kids is a free iPad app that you and your students can use to turn pictures into talking pictures. Twitter Chat of the Month
Participating in Twitter chats is a great way to build up your PLN (Professional Learning Network). Create an account and start building! The chat I am highlighting this month can be found under #edtechchat . On Monday nights teachers and administrators gather for #edtechchat at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This chat lasts until 9 p.m. and highlights a different moderator each week. Some of the most inspiring and influential tech leaders moderate this chat. This past Monday's chat was moderated by Tony Vincent. This chat focuses on three to four questions that the moderator has developed. He or she takes answers from participants for ten-fifteen minutes each, responds to some and then poses another question. I am never disappointed when I join in! At the time and date, go to Twitter and search for #edtechchat. A topic announced at the beginning of the hour guides all participating. The fun part, though, is developing virtual friendships with folks from all over the globe.
