Rocket News
June 2022
It is hard to believe that June is upon us. After a unique start to the year, it is really wonderful to see the children enjoying all of their end of year activities. A special thank you to the PTO, USREF, and Garden Club for your support this school year. We are so grateful for everything that they have done to enhance our curriculum and programs throughout the year. Also, thank you to the many volunteers who have donated their time this year in a variety of ways. We hope that you found your experiences in Reynolds to be rewarding.
To all of our Reynolds Families, we wish you a relaxing, safe, and enjoyable summer. We will miss our Rockets over the summer! We look forward to hearing about all of your adventures when we return in the fall.
Move Up Day
Change can be difficult at any age. Your child may feel excited, nervous, or unsure about leaving their current teacher and classmates. When you meet with them after school on Move Up Day, it will be important to encourage them about their placement, remind them that they will make many new friends next year, and help them see all of the new possibilities that the new year will bring. We appreciate your partnership with their transition.
Summer Reading
"Summer Slide" is the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they have made over the school year. This can especially be true for more reluctant readers. In order to prevent or limit summer slide, children should spend time reading throughout the summer. Choosing a variety of just right books is a great start. We will provide a reading list in your summer packet to help. Encourage children to read something every day and spend time reading aloud. Reading aloud builds comprehension skills and expands experience with texts.
It is also a great idea to take advantage of enriching experiences such as summer camps, time with family, and trips to museums, parks, and libraries.

Memorial Day Sing!
Reynolds and Bogert Schools joined together for our annual Memorial Day Sing. Several fifth grade students spoke about the history and significance of Memorial Day. David Fillis, Captain in the U.S. Navy and Mrs. Fillis' husband, joined us to play Taps while we raised the flag. Each grade-level participated in the event by singing a patriotic song.
It was a meaningful experience for all involved.
We are very thankful to Mrs. Jarvis, Mr. Chen, Mr. Kulhawy and Mr. Weinstein for coordinating this important event.
The first graders put on a beautiful show entitled “Songs for the Children.” This was an especially important show because it was Mrs. Jarvis’s last before she retires. Thank you Mrs. Jarvis for all the work you have done with the children in Reynolds School!
The first and second grade students attended their very first field trip to the Turtle Back Zoo! They were so excited to see the animals up close and learn about the many animals living there.
