Surviving the Stomach Bug
Stomach bugs tend to be the nastiest illnesses our children bring home from school.
Hand washing and keeping things clean are your best defenses from getting ill with a stomach bug. Some viruses will survive on surfaces for days. And some viruses like Norovirus can even survive hand sanitizer. You have to use soap and water to kill it.
24 hours (or so): In general, most pediatricians will tell you that vomiting doesn’t exceed 24 hours with typical gastroenteritis. If vomiting is accelerating at 24 hours, it is time to check in with your child’s doctor.
Medication: Children rarely need medication when recovering from gastroenteritis. Talk with your child’s pediatrician if you feel you child is vomiting longer than 24 hours or becoming dehydrated. Remember that vomiting is a protection reaction of your child’s body to clear infection.
Soap, water, and bleach: Soap and water and common sense are the best disinfectants. There are some highly infectious viruses that cause vomiting. So in addition to soap and water, consider using a dilute bleach solution to clean hard surfaces.
Scoliosis Screenings
The fourth grade students will be screened for scoliosis the week of March 11th. A law enacted by the New Jersey Department of Health requires a screening program for scoliosis for all pupils ages ten through eighteen. The WWRSD nurses perform the screenings starting in 4th grade.
Please review, sign and return the notice sent home with students or click here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pe4QGE0mS9mYkXcPX9-8OnmMQtlc2XPx0lUYDvOVXSI/edit . Please submit to the health office no later than February 28, 2019. Contact the School Health Office with any questions or concerns.
