A Message from Mrs. Caudill
The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed
I am so very excited to announce a Book Club for Parents. I have been reading this amazing book called, The Gift of Failure. As a parent it has opened my eyes on what I can do or not do to support my son. The author uses her own parenting experience and years of dealing with students to gently remind parents just how capable and resilient children really are when given the chance to succeed and, often, fail on their own.
We are so busy being our child’s primary protector we’ve forgotten how to let our children learn through trial and error. Just as we learned lessons from our own failures that helped us become the well-adjusted, contributing members of society we are today, our kids need to be given the opportunity to fail so they can learn those lessons themselves.
I would like to offer a book club to anyone that is interested. I have purchased 15 copies of the book, The Gift of Failure. Sometime in Mid-March, I would like to invite everyone to join me (either virtually or in-person; TBD as we get closer to March) to enjoy some lively conversation about this book. If you are interested, complete this sign-up and a book will be sent home with your student.
The first 15 to sign-up will get a free book. After that, you are more than welcome to purchase the book and join us for the conversation.
Please click the following link to sign-up: Book Club Sign-up
Check out the book on Amazon here.
Happy Reading!

2-2-22 A PALINDROME DAY - LET'S HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT!
What is a Palindrome Day?
Palindrome Days happen when the day’s date can be read the same way backward and forward. The dates are similar to word palindromes in that they are symmetrical.
Maybe we can have some fun with this day, too!!
The lighthouse team is also asking student to bring in 2 items for our Civic Concern Drive as well. Let's make it a fun day!!!

Lead With Your Heart! ❤️
As we start to look to February, we are reminded of the power and impact of kindness and understanding. In fact February’s Habit of the month is Seek First To Understand and Then to be Understood.
Throughout the month of February, Amerman will be celebrating kindness and understanding in many different ways. We are inviting all families to join in celebrating these habits and traits. You are invited to create and share hearts with us in a digital way. You can make your heart as simple or as fancy as you’d like. Please think of a few ways that your child has followed the 7 Habits and write them on the heart. Then, take a picture of the Valentine you created.
All Bobcat Families are invited to share how their child is leading from the heart! Some of our teachers may be asking you to send in hearts which you can do in addition to sharing them digitally. All you need to do is take a photo of your child’s heart(s) and email them to Mrs. Vertrees. vertreesbl@northvilleschools.org. We plan to share images of these hearts on daily announcements. We ask that all posts and photos be submitted by Friday, February 11th!

IT'S TIME TO TEACH HABIT 5 - Seek first to understand, then to be understood
This month’s Habit: Habit #5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
What this means: Listen before you talk. In order to communicate effectively, we must first understand each other.
“I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings.”
“I try to see things from their viewpoints.”
“I listen to others without interrupting.”
“I am confident in voicing my ideas.”
“I look people in the eyes when talking.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Listen.
2. Put yourself in the other person’s place.
3. Notice a person’s body language, tone, and reflection in their voice.
Great Books for Habit #5-Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Alejandro’s Gift by Richard E. Albert
The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
Jamaica’s Find by Juanita Havill
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka
If you would like to recognize your child for being proactive or using Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood at home, please fill out the following Bobcat Boost and return it to your child's teacher.
