Digital Citizenship
Common Sense has many resources that we can share with parents to inform them about what their students could be experiencing online and help guide family discussions. This time around we will focus on Relationships and Communication.
Please share the following resources with your parents to initiate conversations at home about how they want their children interacting with others in a digital environment.
- Help Kids Make Friends and Interact Safely Online (K-5)
- Ayudemos a los niños a hacer amigos e interactuar con otras personas por Internet en forma segura (kinder a 5to grado)

A Virtual Thanksgiving Gratitude Wall
One way in which to create a gratitude wall, simply designate a place online where all students can post. There are MANY places online you can use. Below, you can view two videos showing how to implement this activity using Padlet (a free, simple tool) and Schoology discussion boards. You can kick the activity off by posting kind anonymous comments about your class/students. Then, ask the class/students to do the same. You could even play “compliment tag,” and challenge students to write a kind comment in turn upon receiving a compliment.
For best results, ensure that all students receive at least one sincere note of gratitude. Your online gratitude wall will add a public and visual element to the thanks and will spread warm fuzzies quickly amongst the class. This activity is a great way to circulate positivity and appreciation throughout your virtual environment.
Thanksgiving Digital Crossword Puzzle Maker
There are many benefits to crossword puzzles and can be more difficult than word search puzzles which are also common in education. Some of the benefits of a word search are:
- Improves Vocabulary
- Releases Stress
- Maintains Social Bonds
- Improves Mental Health
- Eradicates Brain Diseases
Take a look at the Teacher's Corner Crossword Puzzle Maker and also watch the tutorial video on how to create a crossword puzzle on their site by clicking on the image at the top. You can print the puzzle, or download it as an image for the iPad or a PDF for MacBook. Below are two Thanksgiving crossword puzzle files that can be used on the iPad or the MacBook.
