Sarah Yost is a National Board-certified teacher who has taught middle school ELA in Jefferson County and Oldham County for 13 years and served four years in a hybrid teacher leadership position as the University of Louisville Teacher in Residence at Westport Middle School. She is a former Teacher Champion with the Collaborative for Student Success and Hope Street Group state teacher fellow. Currently, Sarah Yost serves as the teacher advisor on the Kentucky Network to Transform Teaching (KyNT3) Steering Committee and as the Oldham County Schools NT3 teacher lead for secondary schools.
Chris Wright - Ludlow Independent Schools
Chris Wright is an 8th/9th grade ELA teacher at Ludlow High School, where he is in his tenth year. At Ludlow, Chris serves as Track and Field coach, Cross Country coach, and Freshman Basketball coach while also serving on SBDM. For the past six years, Chris has been a Co-Director of the Northern Kentucky Writing Project through Northern Kentucky University. As Co-Director, Chris has worked on projects for the National Writing Project and the Gates Foundation/Literacy Design Collaborative team. Chris is currently earning his doctorate in Leadership Studies from Xavier University.
Leon Buford-Kelly, Fayette Public Schools
Mr. Leon Buford-Kelly or "Mr. BK," as he is known to his teachers and students, has created mentoring programs for male students that were at risk of failing in school, at life and in danger of not living up to family expectations. Mr. BK has taught on the elementary and middle school level for 7 years, served as an adjunct professor at Western Kentucky University. He has been an administrator for over 9 years, now working at Leestown Middle School. At Leestown, BK helps students develop a positive mindset so they can grow into productive young men and women both in and out the classroom.
Room 108 - Aven Cook - The Culturally Competent Classroom
Participants will engage with introductory material that addresses inherent biases and how to combat them in our classrooms. In this session, educators will be brought into a discourse that will elaborate on how we as educators can increase our awareness and responsiveness to other cultures, how we can create classrooms that are safe spaces for all students, and how we can grow our own knowledge and enact culturally competent pedagogies throughout our districts.

Room 300 - Allison Johnson - Kids with Social-Emotional Needs: A Trauma-informed approach for the Classroom
Practical strategies for working with kids in the classroom who have experienced trauma or have other significant social-emotional needs.
Room 302 - Deb Garey - Externships and what to do with Them
Apprenticeship programs are growing in availability and popularity. Externships help teachers understand the programs, as well as the careers available in Advanced Manufacturing, they are also valuable experiences for teachers. This session will touch on the programs, the externships, and most importantly what to do with the experience back in the classroom.

Teachers will learn how to lead students through the credibility of sources with several example texts given to them.

Learn more about the Teaching and Learning Pathway, where HS students are learning the work of teaching and Educators Rising Kentucky, the student organization supporting the community. Participate in a learning experience around reflection and intentional practice and find out more about how you can be part of the movement.
Room 307 - Lauren Hill, Kate Fryar, Ann Marie Stevens - Intro to Design Thinking for Educators
Design thinking isn't just a protocol but an approach to problem-solving that takes as many forms as there are problems to solve. Our session was designed by the Stanford d.school and is brought to you by Classroom Teachers Enacting Positive Solutions, teachers who use design thinking to re-think their work to make school work for kids. Expect to leave with an understanding of design thinking and ideas about how to use it.
Room 301 - Paradise Forbes, Tiffany Gruen - Empowering Students through Inquiry
In this session, teachers will explore the possibilities when we empower students through inquiry learning. Utilizing the Question Formulation Technique, teachers will analyze how we can create opportunities now for our students to develop the ability to tackle problems of the future.

Room 114 - Danielle Spencer - Breakout EDU
Breakout Edu offers printable games for free on their website, and there are official Facebook groups that teachers can use for questions, support, and sharing their own games. Breakouts teach critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, productive struggle, and can even serve as a way to review or explore content. Learn how to integrate the games into instruction and for celebratorty purposes with meaning.
Room 300 - Elizabeth Gabehart, Brittany Beach - Supporting All Learners in Accessing Grade-Level Math Content
In this interactive session, we will share examples and strategies to address students’ unfinished learning within grade level contexts. Participants will apply strategies to strengthen practice in order to address the needs of all students. Be ready to roll up your sleeves for this exciting and productive session.
Room 302 - Heidi Neltner - PBL: Planning for Success
In this session learn about the basics of PBL, planning considerations and tools to help you manage the messy middle to engage students in higher order thinking.
Room 114 - Baker Davis - Creating Maker Space in Your School
The Butler County Educational Service Center is actively supporting and creating Maker Space building surveys, Maker Space Carts/Labs, lesson plans and in-service training to assist a school in creating Maker Space facilities. This presentation will be a combination of presentation and hands-on participation. Come with questions and your ideas about Maker Space!
Room 303 - Shannon Brickler, Rebecca Boden - Picking the Perfect Text
Text complexity doesn't have to be complex. This session will provide hands-on experience in evaluating the complexity and quality of a text. Providing students texts that support the rigor that is needed for student growth is a crucial factor to your literacy program.
Room 305 - Discussion Session - How to Engage Policy Makers Think Tank
How can we continue to engage legislators in a solutions-oriented manner to advocate for the profession? Join a working conversation to brainstorm effective tactics. Session will be faciliated by teacher leaders in KEA and the Hope Street Group and will rely on participant dialogue.
Room 307 - Shelley Werner - Meeting the Educational Needs of Highly Mobile Students
This session will provide the audience with strategies for identifying, serving and advocating for their students experiencing homelessness. Participants will understand the importance of meeting McKinney Vento compliance regulations and their role in doing so.
Room 301 - Stefanie Stubblefield, Tiffany Gruen - Adverse Childhood Experiences: A District's Response
This session will focus on the work and progress that Erlanger-Elsmere Schools put toward having trauma sensitive classrooms. Trauma experienced by one student, impacts the entire class. Utilizing data-driven dialogue, Erlanger-Elsmere is redefining how to best meet the needs of our students through a holistic approach, district-wide approach.
Room 309 - Christina Emerson, Sara Hudson - Mastering Formative Assessment
Learn how to use formative assessment quickly and easily to identify misconceptions and gauge students’ competencies. We will use technology as well as more standard modes, including student self-assessment and monitoring, focusing on ways to help students take ownership of their learning and to help us better meet their needs.
