The Holocaust and World Genocides class took a field trip to the Armenian Museum with Ms. Zellers and Ms. Depamphilis. The class was given a tour by Jason Sohigian and Berj Chekijian, and students were given a chance to see and interact with historical Armenian artifacts, ask questions and show what they learned about the Armenian Genocide.
The World Percussion Ensemble had a guest clinician, Gabriel Lopes, come in and teach a masterclass. Gabriel is a world-renowned Samba musician and teacher who was on a tour of the East Coast. He discussed the history of Samba Schools in Brazil and taught the students a basic samba. Visit his website here!

STUDENT SCREENINGS:
2023 Watertown Public School District’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey
In order to better understand and address the health-related challenges affecting children and youth, Watertown Public School District is working with a coalition of cities and towns in Middlesex County to administer the 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). Specifically, the survey asks questions about student characteristics; violence-related experiences and bullying; mental health; substance use; sexual behaviors that could lead to sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy; and connections to peers, adults, and the community. The survey data is used to monitor the prevalence of risky health behaviors, assess general trends in health behaviors over time, examine the co-occurrence of health behaviors, and provide comparison data for geographies and subpopulations.
Students will be asked to complete the 2023 YRBS during one of your child’s regular class periods on or around April 12th, 2023.
We would like all students to take part in the survey, but participating in the survey is voluntary. No action will be taken against the school, you, or your student if they decide to opt out of taking the survey. However, the more students who take the survey, the more useful the data will be to the district. If a student chooses to participate, they can skip any questions they do not wish to answer and can stop taking the survey at any point without penalty.
The survey is anonymous and students are asked to not put their names on the survey.
If you do not want your child to take part in this survey, email Frank Cacia prior to April 12th.
SBIRT Screening
Please see the attachments with more information about this program and please let Nurse Jones know if you do not want your student to participate. Deadline for opt outs was April 9th, 2023, if you missed this deadline please reach out to Nurse Jones directly at 617-926-7758 or via email here.
