The Miller Minute

#daretobe our personal best to inspire excellence!

Week 17 - December 17

Last Week at Miller

Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Ms. Williams, our 2017 - 2018 LaRue Miller Elementary Teacher of the Year! Ms. Williams serves our learners as a 4th grade teacher. Reading, English/Language Arts and Social Studies may be the subjects she grades, but she teaches much more than that. Ask any learner who has had Ms. Williams, and he/she will say that Ms. Williams also teaches self-awareness, confidence, and a love for learning. She exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding teacher, and we hope you will join us in congratulating her!

North Pole Star

This week, we welcomed Santa, Mrs. Claus, Stephen Cruelle, and Nick Snowcrest to the stage as we were entertained by the very talented reindeer and the Star Singers! It was an amazing show!

Genius Hour

Would you like to share your genius with us? We would LOVE to have you! Ideas that we have include: yoga instructors, culinary experts, cake decorators, entrepreneurs, wood workers, crocheting, etc. The sky is the limit. What would volunteering entail? Volunteers would need to commit to serving our learners for 3 weeks (one hour each week - Fridays from 7:55 - 8:55 am). We like for these clubs to be interactive, so a project for our learners to complete would be ideal. You can sign up for one Genius Hour Cycle or all of them! Contact shannon_west@misd.gs to volunteer or for more information.

FAQ:

- Will I have help? Yes! At least one staff member will assist you.

- How many students will be in my club? It depends on the club. Our clubs have between 20 - 30 learners.

- Do I need to supply my own materials? Let us know what you need. We can help!

Our next Genius Hour Session Cycle starts after break! Special thanks to Keena Ortiz (crafts), Kori Wilson (cake decorating), Mrs. Elliott's Mother-in-Law (crocheting), and the MHS Basketball Players (Basketball Clinic) for volunteering to lead a club this session cycle. Also, thank you for donating the soap dispensers for our next craft project! We appreciate you!
