Res Weekly Update!
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 9/04 - 9/14
Principals Corner
I have to see it to believe it......
There are many things that I wish for/find myself thinking about as the summer comes to an end. When will be the last day on the boat without having a jacket? When will bar-b-ques transform to marshmallow and smores? When will the smell of suntan lotion be replaced with burning leaves? When will Starbucks be transformed into a Pumpkin Spice paradise for those who love it so?
We started this year at marathon speed and it continues! We have datawise, UbD, curriculum alignments, STREAM, Aspire assessments, teacher observations and so much more happening....all for our students. I spend much time thinking about what it will all look like when it all comes together; what will it look like when there is complete synergy? A friend of mine says, often enough "I will believe it when I see it". I too often thought along those lines....Especially when a person said they would do something counter their previous actions. I was listening to a movie on YouTube and a commercial (for another movie) came on the screen...Long story short, an actress said "You have to believe it in order to see it".
That sentence caught me off guard and started making me think: have I always believed in something and then, as a result, looked for it? I think so. I believe that we are able to do all that is before us....I believe that we are able to take our curriculum and align it to College Readiness Standards in a meaningful manner. I believe that we can continually reflect upon what/how we teach so that it is responsive to student need while aimed at preparing them for something greater. I believe that we can, and will, use data (from a variety of sources) to inform our practice and decisions. I believe that direct teacher observation will lead to increased performance and student learning. I believe in us!

Curriculum and Academics!
Academics
Thanks to all of you for your work; we are expecting great things this year!
Curriculum
This week, during Res U, you will be setting goals for completing your department's curriculum map. This will require you to step back and look at the standards with a broad lens. You will also need to be intentional to stay focused on the mapping. We will have time to talk about course sequencing when we are done with vertical mapping and begin horizontal mapping.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Dr. Vallone! Curriculum can be a daunting task, but we are all in this together!
