Weekly Update
Winnona Park Elementary School
Dear Winnona Park families,
At Winnona Park, we foster a community of empathy, compassion, kindness, and respect for all. We stand in solidarity with our Asian American/ Pacific Islander brothers and sisters. At Winnona, we don’t tolerate difference, we celebrate and embrace diversity. AAPI brothers and sisters we see you, we love you, and we will continue to educate our students lovingly in an effort to make the world a better place.
Sincerely,
Principal Scott
April 12th Transition
This week, CSD shared this update on our next transition. We are excited to be able to offer in person learning for more students beginning on April 12th. We are asking all virtual families to complete this form by March 24th to indicate whether you plan for your student to return in person, or remain virtual on April 12th (thank you to those who have already completed it). Unless you hear differently from me, you can assume that you would stay virtual with your current teacher, and if you come in person you would return to the original teacher. Please feel free to reach out to Ms. Scott with any questions or concerns.

Join the Talley DEI Committee to transform Zoom into KaZoom
Join us on March 23 at 7 p.m. for this fun 45-minute virtual event. Students will trace the history of Southern music, tying together Country, Trap, Hip Hop, and R&B to antebellum music, ragtime, and jazz. This event includes the opportunity to make music with our professional singer/songwriter and playing kazoos in our group “jam band.” The history of Southern music includes the telling of Black history in a fun and unexpected way -- including understanding cultural appropriation in music. This virtual field trip is FREE and open to the first 250 families who register (a waitlist is also available). A kazoo will be provided to each family. The link will be provided prior to the event. DEF Needs Mentors!
We have an immediate need for two women mentors for our REACH mentoring program. If you or someone you know is looking to give back to their community in a fundamental way, mentoring a student 2-4 hours a month is a great way to do that. For more information, please visit www.decatureducationfoundation.org/mentoring or contact Marie@decatureducationfoundation.org to sign up.
