iReady Information
The iReady diagnostic assessment will be administered in classrooms at Talley this week. Teachers will decide the time and format for administration in accordance to the needs of her/his students. Some teachers will administer the diagnostic in small 20 min. chunks of time. Other teachers may decide that having students engage with the assessment tool for longer periods of time if this is better for their students. The iReady program is something that we are piloting at both CSD Upper Elementary schools. As part of the pilot, our teachers are receiving Professional Development after each iReady diagnostic administration. Our teachers will use the data provided by the diagnostic to make standards-based instructional decisions. What makes iReady different from MAP is that the diagnostic is aligned with Common Core standards as well as the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessments that our 3rd-5th grade students are required to take. Both Upper Elementary schools are piloting the iReady program this year to hopefully use more targeted data to provide student-specific enrichment and interventions aligned to common core standards. Because this is a pilot year for iReady, we will not use the iReady test data to determine placement in any special programs: Special Education, Title 1 services, Early Intervention Program, or Gifted. The tool will be used by teachers to make instructional decisions in the classroom. The data will be shared with parents at the Parent/Teacher conferences at the end of Term 1. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or any member of the administrative team if you have further questions.

Decatur Strings Orchestra Program
Intermediate Orchestra will begin the first week of September and is open to any student (grades 3-5) who has taken the Beginning class or has had private lessons for several months. The class meets AFTER school on Mondays & Tuesdays each week from 2:50 - 3:30 beginning on September 3rd. Sign-up here.
Beginning Orchestra will start the first week in October and is open to all students who would like to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. (At this point, we have many violins sign-up and we ask students and their parents to consider the merits of learning the viola, cello, or bass so that we will have a balance of sound.) The class will meet BEFORE school, two days per week (schedule is still TBD) from 7:00 to 7:35am beginning the first week of October.
The participation fee for either orchestra ensemble is $160 for the full year. Need-based scholarships are available. For more information on instrument rentals or to sign-up, go to DecaturStrings.com or contact Program Coordinator, Nia Schooler at nia.schooler@DecaturStrings.com.
