VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: Kindness (Manaakitanga)
Kindness or Manaakitanga, is showing care and concern for other people, animals and the environment – ‘caring for the people’. It is part of our school vision and one of our school values.
We need kindness for people to ‘get on’ and relate to each other, animals and the environment. “Manāki Tanagata, Manāki whenua - To care for the people and to care for the land” this is a big part of our school vision.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You practise environmentally friendly habits such as recycling
You take excellent care of your friends, new people
You accept that people are different
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
A big thank you to everyone who has handed back the survey notes about our plans for the front gates - we really appreciate the feedback. We will let you know what the plans are for the school going forward next week. We will be looking at the feedback closely as a staff and as a BOT, then making sure we plan accordingly.
Next week we are back to normal finishing time for the junior school finishing times - 3.00pm. We will not be taking the big kids over at 2.45pm and Rm 5 and Rm 1 will be finishing at 3.00pm.
The back gate to the junior school is open - this should alleviate some of the congestion we often see at 3.00pm outside the junior school.
We are after your feedback again next week - this time we after some feedback about the learning provided by the school and the Ministry of Education during the lockdown.
If you have 3 minutes, please fill in the online survey forms - we have one for 'Google form' and one for 'Surveymonkey' depending on which platform you like to use. See the links below:

or

We have had a few questions about ordering the Vogeltown school sweatshirts. We have a link for this on the school website and payment through the online system 'Kindo'. Once we have 20 orders we can out the bulk order in. Here is the link: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/kindo-shop/
We have some major changes happening on Huatoki St. This was suppose to begin prior to lockdown. We have been given the new date for commencement and this is the 22nd of June.
This is going to take 12 weeks to complete and will cause quite a lot of disruption for the front of both school sites. We wikl try and keep you up to date as we work through this process with the council. If you want to remember what the plans were, see the drawings below.
Our Te Reo focus for this week has been:
He aha te tae? What is the colour?
He_______________ te tae
Ma - white, whero - red, kakriki - green, Maota - dark green, Karera - light green, Pango - black, kowhai - yellow, kahurangi - blue, kikorangi - blue, karaka - orange, mawhero - pink, kiwikiw - grey, paraone - brown, tawa - purple.
Thanks whanau

WELCOME TO VOGELTOWN
I know you will enjoy Vogeltown school and all we have to offer. We will put the Vogeltown Korowai on Matilda and Braxton at next weeks assembly and put the photos in the newsletter.
From the Syndicates
Taranaki Team (The Juniors)
It is great to be back at school and to have welcomed all of the Junior children back.
They are very excited to be with their friends and to settle into school routines.
A huge thanks to parents/ whanau for your support with drop offs at the gate each day and for the positive way you have supported the children to make this a successful routine.
We have kept our classroom routines as normal as possible and have integrated Autumn theme topic activities and other mini topics into our first 2 weeks back.
At the end of next week the Life Education mobile classroom will be at the junior school and all of the classes will have the opportunity to be involved in the learning programme offered.
We look forward to a busy few weeks.
The Taranaki team.
Huatoki Team (The Middles)
Kia ora everyone. What a fantastic 2 weeks it has been back at school. We have really appreciated all of the support from our families during our remote learning and the way all of our students have returned to the classrooms full of smiles, energy and ready to learn.
As a syndicate, we have introduced well-being time in the mornings. This is where we practice meditation, stretching and yoga type exercises. We have found this a calming way to start each day and also teaches our students how to manage their emotions through breathing techniques.
Our topic this term is our class tree and reduce, reuse, recycle. We are learning how to be responsible citizens by caring for the land both at home and at school. Keep an eye on Seesaw to see what we are teaching our students and ways you can support this at home.
Take care
Huatoki Syndicate
Paetoki Team (The Seniors)
Kia ora from the Paetoki team. It has been great to be able to get back into the swing of things and all of the children have come back with positive learning attitudes. A massive thanks to all of those who supported the programs that were set for the children during the lockdown period.
Our children have adapted well to the new procedures we have in place for COVID19 and are becoming experts in moist breath zones and social distancing. The children are very settled and are back into our regular school routines. Another huge thanks for supporting these procedures.
This term for our inquiry/topic we are focussing on litter and what we can do as a syndicate and individuals to help look after mother earth, stay tuned for more as the term progresses.
Till next time
Paetoki Syndicate
