Information Literacy - Digital Citizenship
April's Digital Citizenship lesson theme is Information Literacy. Link to D64 Digitial Citizenship Google Doc. With the Common Sense Media materials, teachers need to sign up for a teacher account to view or print lesson PDF's. If you have trouble creating an account I am happy to help or print out lesson PDF's with you.
Digital Poetry
April is also poetry month. There are many great ideas out there to celebrate and learn about poetry. This blog post by Middle Web overviews using Google Slides to create digital displays of a poem. Students could also use Google Drawing to design a creative digital poetry piece, or record (video or audio) a dramatic reading a poem poetry slam style.
Awesome Squiggles, Learning Menus
At the ICE 2016 Conference, I heard about a collaborative, worldwide art project, AwesomeSquiggles! The basic idea is simple:
- use a set of designs/squiggles
- create an original piece of artwork incorporating those designs
It's easy, gets the creative juices flowing, and helps students connect over a distance with the shared task.
To participate, go to the AwesomeSquiggles 2016 website, and register your class. You can get an image or a .pdf version to share with students. Once your students have created their masterpiece, you can opt to connect with another classroom, who is also creating AwesomeSquiggles, and set up a Google Hangout to share their creativity globally!
