English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Daily Message
This week in Daily Message we will...
- edit the daily message by finding and fixing the errors.
- find the noun and replace it with an adjective.
- find sight words we have learned in the message.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- blend word parts to identify and say a word.
- identify and write upper case and lower case Ee.
- identify the short and long sound of /e/.
- blend words with short I, O, E and A.
- read, write, and spell the high-frequency word “are.”
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- identify the characters and setting of a story.
- identify key details in the story.
- reread to find details to help better understand the story.
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- share ideas by drawing and writing.
- draw and labeling pictures.
- draw pictures that match spoken contributions.
- identify pronouns.
- write an opinion sentence.
Math
Unit 4: Measurement
This week in math we will...
- measure length using nonstandard units (cubes, sticks, etc.).
- comparing and order lengths.
- measure and compare weight using a balance.
Computer
Have your child keep practicing their username and password when getting onto BCPS One to practice Dreambox.
Below are the steps that you and your child can use.
- Go to www.bcps.org.
- Go to students and click on BCPS One.
- Have your child log into their BCPS One account using their personal user name and password.
- Click on Digital Content.
- Click on "d" to open Dreambox.
- Complete at least 2 lessons.

Monday - Art (wear an art smock)
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - P.E. (wear sneakers)
Thursday - Dance (wear sneakers)
Friday -Library (return library books)
Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
This is when we celebrate your child's birthday during a monthly celebration. You are welcome to come in and join in the singing and celebration. You are also welcome to send in a short activity, goodie bags, an indoor/outdoor recess toy to keep at school, etc. Remember time is limited and some months have 3-4 birthday. No food or siblings. If you are planning to have your child dismiss with you that day please send in a note on that day stating that you would like to have your child dismiss early (3:25) with you.

Important Dates
- February 6th – Reading MAP testing
- February 13th– 100th Day Celebration (dress to show what you will look like when you are 100 years old)
- February 14th – Valentine’s Day Celebration (9:45-11:00)
- February 19th – School Closed (President’s Day)
- February 23rd – February Birthday Celebration (3:00-3:30)
- February 26th - tentative field trip to the public library.
