FOURTH GRADE NEWS

Welcome to Fourth Grade
- The Spring Book Fair is around the corner! The Book Fair will be open from April 30th (teacher preview) to May 4th.
- On May 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm there will be a Book Fair Family Night and Multicultural Program!
- Next year, in 5th grade, your child has a special opportunity to a part of 5th grade outdoor school! On April 15th, Collin County Adventure Camp will be holding an open house from 2:00-4:00 so that you can tour the facilities and get a brief overview of the Outdoor School program. This open house is a come and go event and not mandatory. You do not need to RSVP. Directions and more information is in the attached flyer!
- Texas students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades will participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) this spring. STAAR tests include writing, reading, and mathematics at grade 4. A letter with further information about the upcoming STAAR test has been attached to the Smore.
Language Arts
Unit 5 will cover folktales, legends, tall tales, and fairy tales.
Reading Skills: Legends, Sequence, Text Structure
Grammar: Homophones
Writing: Expository Writing and Revising and Editing
Math
Our math test is Tuesday, March 27.
The next unit will be on geometry. Vocabulary to know:
parallel lines, intersecting lines, perpendicular lines, ray, right angle, acute, angle, obtuse angle, equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, scalene triangle, right triangle, acute triangle, obtuse triangle.
Students will also need to be able to use a protractor to find the measure of angles.
The test will be Friday, April 13.
Science/ Social Studies
Our next unit will be in Social Studies! We will be learning about the Texas Revolution and the impacts it had on Texas.
Students will be able to describe the causes of major events of the Texas Revolution and be able to write an expository essay about the importance of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Students will also be able to identify and compare the characteristics of the Spanish and Mexican governments and their influence on Texas. They will be able to write to synthesize their learning.

- Parents, please remember to send your children to school with everything they will need to stay warm at recess.
- We would like to encourage your child to bring their electronic device. Electronic devices are being used in music, art, and guidance as well as the content area classes.
- SPARKLE Store will open tomorrow morning! Sparkles are an incentive that we give to our students throughout the day. These sparkles may be used on Fridays to buy privileges in the Sparkle Store. The Sparkle Store is open from 7:30-7:45 a.m. You will find a link below for what your students may buy with their sparkles.
