Staff Notes

COVID- 19 Update
- There have been no cases or close contacts reported in MDUSD as of yet.
- Contra Costa Health Services released communication today that included guidelines around social distancing. This communication has our community asking a lot of questions about planned events, as it includes recommendations to cancel large, non-essential events.
- The Superintendent has communicated out new district guidelines effective immediately. See that correspondence below.
Thus questions about events, sports, prom, the upcoming rally- we are working to update and review all scheduled events and work with coaches and staff involved on those adjustments.
- Multicultural Rally- Scheduled for next Friday, this event as we know it has been cancelled. We will be on a normal Friday schedule. The rally commissioners have adjusted and will be having our student performers perform during lunch in the forum each day next week.
- All District Choral festival have been postponed.
- Several band performances and festivals have been cancelled.
- Spectators for any sporting event will not be allowed within CC County.
- Field trips in the month of March have been postponed.
We are working to provide a list of affected events on our school website, and will monitor and update it frequently. We will be looking at outside user permits, as these will be affected as well.
As for continued school functioning, we are on. Continue to be vigilant. Stay home if you are sick. IF you are concerned about a student, please approach them privately and see if they feel they should go home. Communicate with the parents, and with the office, and seek out admin or school nurse support as needed.
Lastly, but very important, as we are already getting students coming up with misinformation, questions, and some frustration- please be careful with the messaging you might be using in class. Some comments have been made to students that we will likely be closing soon, that ball likely won't be happening, or that Dr McAlister is cancelling events arbitrarily. Feel free to share that the county office of health released a new set of guidelines that we are adjusting to adhere to, and that the district is updating their orders for us as well. All decisions made are being made at the guidance of the county office and the district office, and we are working diligently in the admin office to practically apply these guidelines in a way that makes sense for safety concerns but being mindful of the impact caused by these decisions.
WASC Wrap Up
In their summary, they were wholly impressed with the progress they saw from the last WASC, in focusing school-wide efforts around shared goals, common core, essential standards, and common assessments. They were impressed with the feeling of camaraderie within the staff, and the commitment to the students.
They recommended continued work in data, in setting protocols and norms around using and talking about data, and in ways to longitudinally use data. Some of the recommendations were not specific and were centered around things that are limited currently in Aeries.
We will not know what the recommendation coming from the report will be, but will share it as soon as we do. Until then, thank you!
