Science is cool!
Trifecta of fun on Friday: eclipse, full moon and a comet!
Penumbral Eclipse on Friday and Extra Credit
We are working on the Solar System in ELA and Science right now. We are learning about the planets, stars, moons, etc. We are also learning about eclipses. Now, it is not often that a penumbral eclipse happens. It is rare that one will obligingly happen before bedtime when the class is studying the solar system!
In a penumbral eclipse, the outer shadow of the Earth blocks part of the sun's rays from reaching the moon. Pretty cool, right? Even better, this is to happen at 7:43 pm--moonrise on Friday evening. Also on show, will be a comet, named 45P which will be visible above the constellation of Hercules.
Extra Credit for those who bring in a note signed by a parent or guardian to prove they watched the eclipse.
