What is the Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears is a forced relocation of Native American nations from southeastern parts of the US.
When and Where?
When: 1830-1858
Where: They started on the more eastern side of the country and forced to move west.
Who was involved?
There were five tribes involved with being for to the west. these tribes are Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muskogee, and the Seminole. The Cherokee was the largest out of these 5 tribes. These tribes were forced to walk the trail of tears by the US. They had to move westward.
Native Americans
- Wanted land for hunting and gathering
- Only some farmed
- Some built homes
- Many suffered for exposure, disease, and starvation
- Many died on the Trail of Tears
Where Did They Move to?
It started in the Carolina's and present day Georgia and moved to present day Oklahoma.
