Grade: Session 1 Recap & Mentoring
August Session a Success!
Dear Grade participants and parents,
Now it's time for the first mentoring session. Mentoring is one of the most important components to the program. This is the one-on-one follow up which helps each student put the program content into practice. The mentor is a coach who will guide and give ideas, but each student will only reap the benefits when he sows generously. The mentor will not be a nag, but a solid support for the student to lean on.
You should have already received a personal email introducing your mentor. If you have not, please contact me. Please do your best to schedule your mentoring session as soon as possible. There will be a total of 8 general sessions and 8 mentoring session this year. We hope that you can make as many as possible to get the most out of the program.
The mentoring session this year take place primarily during the Study Nights at Swift and Long Point. The details are below. If you are not able to schedule a mentoring session during the regular times, you can try to meet with your mentor at a different time as well.
Hope you have a great week!

The seniors were generally introduced to the subject of philosophy: the use of human reason to ask and answer many of life's major questions. They also very briefly looked at how reason relates to faith.
The main topic of the seminar though, was moral relativism. Moral relativism is the view that morality is relative to particular societies or to particular individuals. Moral relativism denies that there are moral norms that are binding for everybody, independent of who they are or what society they belong to. This view--or related views--can be especially common in college campuses.
Through lecture and a lively class discussion, the seniors looked at important objections to the moral relativist. On philosophical grounds, relativism has trouble holding water.
