Hooray for 4K!
Lowell 4K Class of Mrs. Zagorski October 16,2020
Singing and Participating
Every day we sing and dance and move together. Some songs are part of our routine, and these help us feel comfortable and happy ,and like we know what we can expect in our daily routine. Some songs are for academic reasons like math songs about numbers and shapes, or songs about letters and sounds of letters. Some songs help us laugh and have fun, and some songs and for calming us. The children are getting so good at participating and signing in echo style. It is fun to see them smiling and laughing while learning.
Smart board smarties
These children are making patterns on the smart board. This interactive activity goes with a math book called Parker's Patterns. We work on AB patterns, or patterns using 2 things. Many children are ready to try more challenging patterns also. Families could try some patterns at home too, using cereal or toys or candy pieces. We work on saying the items out loud, because we can often tell which items will come next very easily with this strategy.
Showing you our work on display
Even though you cannot come into the school building yet, we want you to see what it looks like inside our school. You can see the homework names the children decorated, as well as a project we worked on for color week. Our leaf rubbings are on display also. Then we made 3 big graphs: a favorite colors graph, a favorite seasons graph, and also one showing which apple we preferred in a taste test. The children are able to talk about what they notice by looking at our graphs.
Rest time
The upper pictures above are showing us doing a practice rest time. The bottom pictures are showing some children during actual rest time. Rest time can be a little restless some days, especially at the beginning of our time. We are required by the district to have a "down time" and most every 4K in the district is having a rest time. I do lots of encouraging during rest time, by giving certificates to those who are doing a great job. Thanks for encouraging your child to get some body rest, during rest time. Thanks for celebrating those certificates that are coming home!
Self Help Skills
As the weather cools off and we are wearing our jackets to school, we need some practice with our coats and zippers. One thing the children are learning is that they can take a jacket off without having the sleeves go inside out each time. Then they learn how to fix the sleeves if they are inside out. Then we work on putting the jackets on ourselves. And then, we work on zipping the jackets. This is an important series of tasks that you could help with at home. Be sure to let your child have enough time to practice, so they don't feel rushed. Be sure to encourage them and praise them after they work so hard. Thanks for your help with these skills.
Outside recess playtime
We have two outdoor play times right now. The children still love to play on the playground equipment. They also love to play with balls, and love to bounce them back and forth to each other. They enjoy playing with bubbles and chalk. This week we started playing a simple version of soccer. We also played a version of baseball, using a small beach ball to bat. We have played color tag and red light, green light. We have some frisbees to use also. Next week we will add more activities to keep us interested and playing nicely together.
