Wilson's Weekly
August 20-24, 2018
Reading
This week, the students will each be reading with me individually as I assess their reading fluency or rate. I will also be giving each student the QPS, an assessment used to determine which if any phonetic skills the child needs help with.
Writing & Spelling
Wednesday, the students will complete an on-demand writing assessment to give me a baseline for where they are as writers.
This week, we'll begin our first unit in Spelling. Throughout the week, we will focus on words with consonant blends and short a & i, analogies, inferences, context clues, and proofreading.
Technology
To start the year off, we will be doing several technology lessons to help the students become familiar with their Chromebooks and become responsible digital citizens. We will cover device care, a Chromebook tutorial, being a polite online user, private vs. public information, and cyberbullying.
B.I.S.T.
Throughout this week, we will take time each day to have a mini-lesson focused around behavioral expectations. Tuesday, we will discuss expectations & practice the steps for when someone is asked to move to the safe spot, buddy room, or recovery room. Wednesday, the students will become familiar with various redirects that a teacher might use to help them refocus their attention. Thursday, we will talk about being accountable for our actions, making restitution, and offering a sincere apology. Friday, we'll learn how to respond quickly and precisely to the directions that a teacher or other adult has given us.
