From the Principal's Desk

Dr. Larry Savage, Principal

It’s hard to believe, but we only have around 32 days of school remaining in 2020/21. We are doing our best to finish the year strong and demonstrate outstanding student results despite the many roadblocks we have all faced.

I’ve said from the beginning that I want Chatham Grove ES to be one of the most outstanding schools in the state. Please help us keep our kids focused and hard-working all the way until the end of the year.

On Going Phone Issues

We continue to have issues with our phone systems (calls only ringing once or twice, people calling from outside lines unable to leave voicemails, or voicemails going to a phone number we are unable to check. We have our phone technicians working to resolve the issue and we appreciate your patience.

School Picture Day

Picture Day Info:

April 27th, all students in person will have their photo taken throughout the day. Each class has a scheduled time to ensure social distancing and safety. Students will unmask briefly while seated for their photo.

April 30th will be our Virtual Academy Picture Day from 8:30am-1:30pm.

VA Parents can bring their students to the bus parking lot and pull up to the covered walkway. Staff will be on site to assist your student into the gym for their photo and back while parents wait at the entrance/in their vehicle.

Payment & Ordering Info:

You have the option to prepay before picture day online OR bring the order/payment envelope on picture day. Your student will hand directly to the photographer when their photo is taken. No in person orders or payments will be accepted by teachers or staff.

Order envelopes for VA students are now available to pick up in the lobby. Pre-pay online or have your student bring the order envelope when they arrive for the photo. Envelopes will be handed directly to the photographer. Online orders after picture day will also be available.

The new reFUEL CGE needs your financial support!

Chatham Grove Elementary students who have been receiving Fuel Up food assistance will be transitioning over to the new reFUEL CGE program starting this summer, and we need your financial support to make this happen.

We will be following the reFUEL model by having nutritious shelf stable non-perishable food items delivered right to students’ homes, eliminating many of the obstacles traditional backpack programs run into. In order to be able to continue providing our students with this valuable resource through the summer, and into the new school year, we will need to raise $5,000, and then continue fundraising throughout the year.

Supporting reFUEL CGE students is easy: make a monthly or one-time tax-deductible donation through *PayPal, or if you would prefer you can make your donation by *check.

· $60 a month will provide a student with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 3 dinners & snacks each weekend for a month

· $180 will cover that same student’s needs for the entire summer

· $5 a month will even make a difference to a hungry child

Please consider helping us help our hungry children. Thank you!

CGE Ongoing Information

Attendance and Plan A

As of April 12th, students in K-5 who are attending school in-person under Plan A will follow attendance rules as during a ‘normal’ year on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Plan A students will be marked absent on days they are not at school (in-person), and they will not be able to log into their class remotely. An exception will be granted when students are having to quarantine.

Students New to CGE:

Important Carpool/Walker Reminders

We are continuing to improve our carpool and walker dismissal procedures. Please be sure to read through the following tips to help! Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation!

-Pull up close as close as possible to the cars in front to allow more cars to fit onto campus. We have been able to significantly reduce cars off campus this week.

-Do not block the intersection on Andrews Store Road.

-Please have your students ready with everything they need to exit the car in a timely fashion when you arrive at our drop off points. If needed, please utilize our Staff parking lot if your students are not prepared to exit their vehicles.

-Walkers, please continue to socially distance while waiting for your students.

Materials Pick Up

Student materials will be available for pick up again starting on Monday April 26th from 9am-2pm. Please contact your student’s classroom teacher if you have a question about the materials/resources that need to be collected at our school.
