What makes a great teacher!
- Great teachers build relationships with their students, they care about them and create and environment that makes students want to learn.
- Great teachers listen, really listen to their students so the classroom become our classroom
- Look for ways to improve practice
Ensure their students are engaged and if they are not they try and remedy that.
Reflective about long term vs short term.
Great teachers know they can’t be great all the time.
To extend that conversation, I had someone send me the following article about, "Things that principals know about GREAT teachers..." I agree, these are some things that we do know about great teachers.

FAQs: F&P BAS and Writing Data
With the end of the marking period almost here, there have been questions about new procedures for BAS & Writing Data. Here are some answers to help you on your way.
What are the windows for F&P BAS?
Here are the windows for all our assessments this year:
19-20 AE Testing & Assessment Windows
Specifically for BAS, they are as follows:
Fall ~ September 30 -November 1
Winter ~ January 27 - February 21
Spring ~ April 27 - May 22
Where do I report the BAS scores?
- We are moving towards recording all data in Illuminate.
- For the end of this card marking since it falls before the BAS window, you will need to use classroom assessments to enter a grade for 2nd card marking.
- The next time you will use a BAS score on report cards will be the end of the year.
Hopefully, as the new report card is developed this windows will become more aligned.
Who do I need to assess for BAS in the Winter?
This is new this year, so here is a chart to remind you who you do not need to assess in Winter based on their Fall BAS scores.
Where do I record writing scores?
A recording form within Illuminate is in the works, but until it is active we ask that you still report your writing data here: AE 19-20 Writing Data TrackerBring Your Own Device (BYOD) Update
Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows 7. Therefore, the NPS-BYOD-WIN7 network is no longer available. Staff and students who previously used this network for their personal devices should now use NPS BYOD instead.
The NPS BYOD wireless network is intended for personal devices, and requires a valid district username and password.
When joining the network:
"username" or "identity" is just the district username (not the full @northville...)
"password" is the district password that goes with the username provided
Some devices (Apple, Android, Chromebooks) may prompt for the following additional items:
If prompted for an EAP method, choose "PEAP".
If prompted for Phase 2 authentication, choose "none".
If prompted for an "anonymous identity" leave that blank.
If prompted for a CA certificate, select "do not validate".
If prompted to trust a certificate, say yes.
If prompted to require a certificate, say no.
Staff and students will not have to re-authenticate every day with NPS BYOD as they did with NPS-BYOD-WIN7. It is only necessary to re-authenticate when your district password is changed, or when you reset or purchase a new device.
If you come across a stubborn device that won't connect, or if you have any questions, please let contact Steven Mezzadri in the technology department and he will be happy to assist you!

BOOK ROOM - New Year...New Things in the Works
The Book Room continues to take shape in the new year. Since Christmas we have received new shelving, so all the books that you tagged in the fall are finally at your fingertips. We will continue to develop the Book Room to make it as user friendly as we can. A big shout out to Ro for her commitment to getting all this organized!
Help us Stay Organized
- In the coming weeks we will introduce a check out system, but for now, it is still the honor system.
- Please take the entire bag for a title and return the entire bag when you are done.
- Use the Book Return bin outside the LC room, we will reshelve the books for you.
Leveled Literature/Book Club/Chapter Books
In the white tubs you will find all those books that you tagged and that we used to have on the middle shelves in the old book room. They are in bags of six and organized by level. We are working on an inventory list and will update it as we go. Our goal is to update this form with genre, so you could search by level, by title, by author or genre.
Inventory List for Leveled Literature/Book Club/Chapter Books
I know it will take us all time to get used to the new arrangement, and if you need help finding a specific title, just ask. Ro and LaManna are here to help.
Guided Reading Books
Many of you have already been using these books from the Blue Bins and we hope you continue to explore this wonderful resource for your small group instruction. You can search these books by level and genre using the F&P Online Resources. If you are curious about what the titles are you can find them in this folder.
Still to Come…
With the additional shelving it is in the works to create sections for specific genres such as poetry, biographies, folktale/fairy tales/legends and feature our mentor texts that we have acquired over the years.
The Book Room is definitely a work in progress, so if you have suggestions or find mistakes in our organization, just let us know.
