Run so as to win for Jesus!
Welcome to fifth grade, a very happy place to be! We are off and running.
Thank you to those who were able to attend curriculum night. If you were unable to attend, I sent an information packet for you. If you are interested in chaperoning our trip to Ashland in June, please stop by the classroom to sign up for the lottery. Thank you Julie Forth and Kelli Shelton for being our class reps this year. Thank you Karen Hackl for heading up our wreath sales. It's a big year!
We are currently in "boot camp" learning the ins and outs of fifth grade expectations. For this reason, there has not been a lot of homework. That will begin to change as we move forward. There will be no completed/corrected work in this week's Thursday envelope. We are starting data portfolios and need the work to set these up. You will see a packet next week.
Mr. Boyd and I team teach math this year. If you have questions please let us know. Mr. Boyd's email is jboyd@stmikesolympia.org.
*Passport Guidelines: Students receive their study maps at the beginning of each month. It is expected that they will study weekly in preparation for the check at the end of the month. If a student is absent a recheck will be given by me or an aide upon return. Rechecks are only for students who were absent on the scheduled check day. The grades are recorded in the Social Studies section of Power School.
Our MAP testing is going well. It seems to be less stressful for the children than previous testing. I look forward to using the data from this assessment tool to meet the learning needs of all our fifth graders. We will assess again two more times this year to monitor growth.
