Types of Retailers

Personal Selling:

Personal sellers sell goods without a retail store. This is done door-to-door or through selling parties in private homes or environments. The merchandise is usually high quality, but it is sometimes pricey.

Variety Stores:

Offer inexpensive, basic clothing, stationery, housewares, and toys. They are typically found in small towns, but many have been pushed out of business because of big general merchandisers.

Kiosks and Carts:

Kiosks/carts are found in central areas of shopping malls. They feed on impulse buys by selling little things like jewelry or cosmetics. They require low capital expenses because the small area in the mall is inexpensive to rent out, and only one person needs to be working at a time.
