Knightly Update September 18, 2022
ACP High School - Edition Vol 2 Issue 11
Hello. I am excited to share that I had the opportunity to meet with the Class of 2023 this week and inform them that 18 members of the senior class are National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! This is quite an accomplishment and I am very proud of and happy for the students named as semifinalists. As a school, we had the highest percentage of National Merit Semifinalists based on class size of any school in CUSD. Just amazing. Congratulations to this year's semifinalists and best of luck as you continue the process to become finalists. You can learn more about the National Merit Scholarship and see the list of this year's semifinalists in our Knights in the Spotlight section of today's update. Congrats!
Our Student Government is putting the final touches and last minutes details together as they prepare for our upcoming Homecoming Week celebrations. Homecoming week is the week of September 26th with spirit days and evening events taking place throughout the week. I hope our students will choose to participate in the daily spirit themes, come to and participate in the events, cheer on their classmates at various competitions, while celebrating all that is great about being a part of ACP with past and present Knights. It is sure to be a fun week, so please join us in our homecoming celebrations. Details are included in this today's update.
A thank you is in order to the members of STUGO for putting together our first "First Friday" event of the year. Students were treated to outdoor games, music, a mechanical bull, and a dunk tank during Friday's lunch. It was a very fun event. Great work, STUGO.
I hope you have a very nice week. As always, if I can be of assistance in any way, please contact me. Enjoy your week.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Knights in the Spotlight
National Merit® Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced its 2023 National Merit® Semifinalists. The 68th annual NMSC program named 16,000 Semifinalists. 7,250 National Merit® Scholarships valued at $28 million total will be awarded next spring. 95% of Semifinalists become Finalists and approximately 50% of them win scholarships and are named Merit Scholars®.
Semifinalists are comprised of less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide and we are extremely pleased to share that ACP High School's Class of 2023 has 18 National Merit Semifinalists. Absolutely amazing. As a school, ACP has a higher percentage (6%) of National Merit Semifinalists than any other CUSD school. Congratulations to this year's National Merit Semifinalists!!

Maricopa Trip Reduction Survey
Employers and schools are asked to reduce single occupant vehicle (SOV) trips and/or miles traveled to the work site by 10 percent each year. Progress is tracked through an annual commute survey of employer/school sites. The results of the survey are used to develop an annual travel reduction plan that commits the employer/school to implementing and documenting various strategies to reduce SOV trips or miles.
As part of this program, school employees and student drivers are asked to complete a short Trip Reduction Survey. Most student drivers completed this survey last week during advisory. However, if a student driver did not complete this survey, we ask that they click here or scan the below QR code to complete this task. Please note: upon opening the survey it will show that it is to be completed by "Employees Only" but it is the correct survey for student drivers to complete. That message was included in error. Thank you.

Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
