A special thank you to the School counseling department for their help, and particularly Mrs. Alyssa Giedra (School Counselor) and Mrs. Nancy Cyr (Career Center Director) for organizing the entire event and making it a success from beginning to end! COLLEGE FAIR PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, September 28th, the Wolcott High School Counseling Department held their eighth Annual College Fair in the school’s gymnasium. Over 100 college admission representatives, as well as military recruiters, technical schools, and cosmetology programs ventured out to Wolcott High School to meet with the families of Wolcott and surrounding high schools. For an hour and a half, students and their families were able to visit with representatives in regards to post- high school options. In addition to the above attendees, Wolcott continued to host a financial component to the college fair, having financial advisors present to meet with parents in regards to paying for college. Prior to the fair, Mr. Craig Breitsprecher, a financial advisor with Talcott Financial Group spoke to an audience of over 50 parents and students about paying for college.
The college fair and financial presentation was a great way for students and parents to learn about a wide range of post-secondary options. Following the college fair, feedback from our attending representatives was extremely positive regarding the participation of students and families. Many stated that the fair was well attended, organized, and had great representation of underclassmen in attendance. The college fair is just one of many events planned to help Wolcott High School students discover post-high school options. In the days leading up to the fair, students worked with their discovery groups to research a variety of colleges and programs, discuss appropriate questions to ask at a college fair, and decorate their door for the representatives to see. Throughout the remainder of the school year, students will continue to explore future plans through developmental school counseling lessons, college field trips, and career day.
While the counseling department organized the event, much of the day’s preparation was conducted by student volunteers. Various students helped to set-up and decorate our gymnasium as well as take down and clean up decorations at the end of the night. Others offered to help greet and escort our representatives to their table. Our outstanding culinary department, along with their teacher Mr. Chuck Tutalo, prepared sandwiches, salads, and cookies for our visiting representatives to enjoy while they spoke with families. The hard work and dedication of these students contributed to another successful college fair for Wolcott High School. The Wolcott High School Counseling Department would like to thank the students, the culinary program, and the custodial staff for all of their help with our college fair. We look forward to next year and having another successful event.
