Podcasting at Ashbrook
This year, thanks to funding from the Delta Fellows program, students and staff at Ashbrook have been podcasting...giving our school a voice on the world stage. Language Arts teacher Ashley Rimmer and Creative Writing/Public Speaking teacher Jesse Birnstihl have used our recording studio in the media center to do podcasting projects with their students. Math teacher Tripp Griffin and I have also started a school podcast called Ashbrook Soundwaves, where we tell “Ashbrook Stories”. Assuming the COVID-19 travel ban is lifted soon, Mr. Griffin, Ms. Rimmer and I will be presenting at the Young Writers’ Conference at UNC Charlotte in April. We will be presenting “Podcasting: A Reinvigoration of the Spoken Story”.
Here is the information about our school podcast. Give it a listen if you have 30 minutes to spare…

Beverly Cook Remembrance Gathering
We celebrated the life of Beverly Cook, who worked at Page Primary School for 13 years as the School Librarian. We were honored by the presence of her two sons as well as members of her family. A new circulation desk was dedicated in her honor as well as well as the new tradition of “Cook’s Books” that we established to remember her generous spirit, as well as her love for children and learning.
Springfield Elementary Renovation
The media center at Springfield has received a makeover! Over the summer the media center was given new lights, carpet, and paint. Our new library shelving, tables, chairs, circulation desk, and soft seating have been arriving in stages this school year. We have added five hundred and thirty books to our collection so far this school year. A big thank you to the Gaston County Schools Facilities Department, Springfield Elementary administration Ms. Poag and Mrs. Buchanon, Christ’s Lutheran Church of Stanley, and our Springfield Community for making this renovation happen. We are very excited to show off our awesome updated space!

Read Across America at Tryon Elementary School
During Read Across America Week, Tryon students participated in several STEM challenges around the library inspired by books we've read. They built Trufella Trees from Tinker Toys and pom poms, created the tallest tower using cups and index cards and used legos to build the "Places We"ll Go!" around the world.
