Leadership Message
For the Kids: Team SJXXIII Commitment
Here we are at the end of another month and by the grace of God and the power of working together, we are not just surviving but thriving. This doesn’t just happen; it happens with an unwavering commitment to serve. In today’s gospel reading, we are reminded of how Jesus showed up, not to be served, but to serve. Jesus showed us that to love and to serve- is our “authority”, to be a witness of God’s love for humanity. Jesus is our reminder as to what humanity looks like in the eyes of God.
I just want to take a moment to celebrate and share my gratitude for the amazing service from our St. John staff this year. With every curveball, announcement, and challenge, our staff continues to show up, ready to serve, connect, love and teach-’for our kids’. No matter what they are carrying in their own backpacks, they leave these in their cars and ask, “What is needed today” to make our school community a place where every child feels safe, welcomed, and loved. A place where faith and wellness are foundational to pursue each child’s learning goals . Last week, with the coldest week of the year, our staff donned ski pants and parkas, and went out to ensure our kids had fresh air and an opportunity to play and move. It was truly an Arctic Winter day as we celebrated this event, and it was just what our kids needed! Not only do they show up, ready to serve, they do this with JOY, just look at some of the pictures below!
As we round the corner to Random Acts of Kindness week, it would be amazing if you could take a moment to send an email, a message, or a call and thank one of our staff for their amazing service this year.
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm, Principal
Welcome to our St. John Family Ms. Evans-Grade 4S Teacher
Hello St. John family! My name is Ms. Rachel Evans, and I am thrilled to be joining the St. John XXIII team in Grade Four while Mrs. Selinger takes leave to have her baby. I started working for EICS in September teaching Grade Nine and Ten English and Religion but am trained in Elementary Education so look forward to getting back in the classroom with the younger learners again. My husband and I are both from St. John’s, Newfoundland and moved to Alberta in 2014. After two years teaching in the Northern part of the province, we found this gem of a community and did not hesitate to make it our home. We have had two little girls since moving here and love taking them out to explore the beautiful parks and walking trails around the city. My husband is also part of the EICS community as he teaches Social Studies and Outdoor Education at Archbishop Jordan in Sherwood Park. My first few days at the school have been amazing, all thanks to the wonderful staff and students at St. John XXIII.
Things that bring Ms. Evans joy are: my family and friends, children’s artwork, reading, prayer, running with good music, watching students sing in their choir, tea, and so many more things!
Registration for the 2021-2022 school year opens tomorrow! We are excited to welcome our new St. John learners!

Tis the season of surveys-What's the difference? Why does it matter? Accountability? Assurance?
Provincial Accountability Pillar Survey: Provincial Survey (Jan. 16-Feb. 22)
The annual Accountability Pillar Survey is sent out by the Alberta government in January. Parents and students in grades 4, 7, 10, and teachers will complete the survey. Families will receive a mailed survey from Alberta Education in the month of January and students will complete the survey at school. As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education to ensure that we are equipping students for success.
EICS Assurance Survey: Our district survey (Jan. 18-Feb. 15)You should have received an email with a survey link.
The provincial Accountability survey provides valuable insight to some measures of our school, with results in October. Our EICS Assurance Survey for staff, students, and parents emphasizes the collaborative commitment to work together with all stakeholders and create a goal-orientated plan for our school. This is referred to as our School Assurance Plan. *Our Assurance Plan focuses on shared goals, highlights successes and enhances challenges, and is directly tied to priority-based budgeting for our school community.*
If it's going well, please let us know so we can keep doing what we do. Have a suggestion for enhancement, please share-we want to continue making St. John a GREAT place to learn and grow!
One of our amazing St. John Kids and her Mama shared their story during the Stollery Kids Radiothon!
