Dear GRE Families,
The school is buzzing with holiday excitement! With just 9 days left of school before Winter Break, students and teachers are hard at work. This week begins our Data Team meetings where we meet with each team of teachers to discuss student progress. You will be updated on your child's progress next Thursday, December 19th when students bring their Grade Card and Benchmark Letter home in their backpacks. Be sure to look for this important information!
It's Hour of Code Week! The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out the tutorials and activities. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. Students this week will be coding all kinds of different games and creations! You can learn more by checking out their website code.org.
Let's have a great week!

3. The Ohio Department of Education asked us to share the following information in our newsletters. The parties in the Doe v. Ohio Department of Education class action have submitted a proposed settlement to the U.S. District Court for approval. The first step in the approval process of the settlement is to provide notice of the proposed settlement to affected students and their parents. Click here to read through the notice.
Specials Spotlight: STEM with Mrs. Keller
Next week is the Week of Code. All students took a break from their projects this week to prepare for this event. Students in kindergarten worked on coding mini spheros, students in grades 1-3 worked in Scratch and fourth grade students continued coding the robots that will pull their float.
Fourth Grade is wrapping up coding. They are in the process of finishing coding their mini sphero, which is pulling their float they created, around the building. Students will be presenting their floats during a parade through the school on Wednesday, December 18.
Students in third grade are working on their choice-based STEM project. Some examples they could choose from are: Environmental Scientist: Pollution in the ocean has become such a problem. Many are trying to solve this problem, but the litter keeps piling up and causing environmental issues. Create a model of a contraption that could be used to help pick up sone of the trash in our oceans. Zoologist: You have been tasked with creating a new toy or enrichment activity for the chimpanzee exhibit that will encourage the chimpanzees to be active and use the puzzle-solving part of their brain. Design a model of something fun to help keep them happy, entertained and moving around.
Second Grade students are continuing to create and improve their carnival games. Carnival games will be available to play at STEM night, January 16.
First Grade students have been working on creating mazes. They will be creating mazes and coding robots through the mazes.
Kindergarten students have been challenged to design a new and improved sleigh for Santa.
The STEM Hub is always in need of items. If you have any empty wrapping paper rolls or paper towel rolls, please feel free to send them in with your child. Thank You
