Best Communities for Music Recognition

Big picture

Mr. Tom Kelly, Zeswitz Representative, presented Methacton School District with the NAMM Foundation 2023 Best Communities for Music Education award. This is the seventh year in a row that Methacton has earned the designation. More than 8,000 school districts across the nation completed the extensive application process, however, only 821 were selected to receive the commendation. Members of the Methacton music department, led by department coordinator Ms. Sue Basalik, were also in attendance to accept the award.

Graduation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13, 2023, beginning at 4PM at the Methacton High School stadium.

Student Board Representatives

A very special thank you to MHS seniors Sameeksha Panda and Joseph Shaw for serving as student board representatives for the 2022-2023 school year. We wish them all the best as they embark on their post-secondary endeavors.

Meetings in Review

Audubon Elementary School Property Update

Dr. Zerbe provided an update on the former Audubon Elementary School property. The Board approved the building's leveling in November 2022, and Dr. Zerbe was tasked with recommending a future educational use for the property by July 2023. However, due to uncertainty regarding obtaining a required County NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit, the timeline has been adjusted. Instead of issuing bids in June 2023 for a July 2023 demolition, bids will now be requested in December 2023. As a result, the demolition is now targeted to occur in February or March of 2024. This delay will enable bidders to provide more specific bids and result in a single mobilization of equipment, which will likely reduce costs.
