New Initiatives
- Empowering Modern Learners - The Library Learning Commons is playing a very larder role in supporting staff and students to become modern learners. Our workshops on filming and podcasting are highly requested and we have more and more students signing out devices to complete assignments.
- Hot Docs - We will be hosting free in school screenings of some of the latest documentaries, as well as planning a trip to the Hot Docs festival in the spring!
- OverDrive - Students and teachers can access some of the books in our collection online at www.louisearbour.lib.overdrive.com
- Redesign of Room 228 - We are now moving forward with the redesign of room 228 to fulfill the mandate of alternative classroom spaces as part of the Empowering Modern Learner document. Teachers are very excited to have this up and running.
- Indigenous Education/We Rise Together - We are going to be bringing in authors, poets and other artists to help support the Indigenous Education and We Rise Together initiatives.
- Virtual Reality - This is really taking off and we are bringing it to LASS! We want our students to experience the world beyond the classroom and with apps like Google Expeditions, we will be able to do just that.
Our Awesome Volunteers!
The LASS LLC currently has 24 Volunteers. Many are returnees from last year – they are great mentors to our new volunteers.
They work hard and are very responsible at showing up on time and letting us know if they cannot make their shift.
We also have one student from the DD program this year. She is paired up with one of our Senior Volunteers. They are a great team together!
Our Volunteers are a valued part of the Library team – they are a great group of kids.
