McAllister Minutes
Week of: September 5 -September 8
4 Weeks in & you most certainly deserved Labor Day...
At McAllister ES, it is evident day in and day out that you have devoted your time and efforts to the well-being off our students and the prosperity of our nation all the while preparing students to be well rounded. Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Helping Hands After Harvey
This past weekend I was able to connect with the Ridgegate Elementary School Principal (Ms. Felicia Holmes) in hopes that we could partner with her school in Houston, TX during these trying times that have recently been faced. In communicating with her, she told me stories of 1st year teachers that had recently re-located to Houston, TX and when disaster struck they lost everything, families that have little left to salvage and countless other staff members that have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. While their needs are extensive, her and I figured the best way to meet those needs would be through a gift card donation so that they could purchase the necessities to get the year started. McAllister Elementary School is asking all families to consider donating to Ridgegate ES in hopes that the start of their school year will be focused on educating young minds when students walk through the doors on September 12, 2017. In addition, please consider writing an encouraging letter to the recipient of your donation. All donations will be accepted through Friday, September 8, 2017.
This is a great opportunity to not only instill in our students the act of being selfless & charitable but also an opportunity to connect/collaborate with a school in another state.
Reminders/Updates for the Week
- Parents can begin volunteering and eating lunch with their kids this week. Please be sure to have items set-up if you have a volunteer coming in and also please remember that they should never be out of your line of sight.
- Parent University is Thursday Evening at 6pm. Being that you all will be here for a long day, we will be providing Chik-fil-A Sandwiches, chips and a drink for dinner. Thank you for being INCREDIBLE!
- Printing Gone Wild - WOW! Please be cognizant of what you are printing, if you are feeding worksheets to students as if they were goats please refrain. We have expended more copies to start this year than collectively in the past two school year starts. Like I said in the beginning, we will print until we run out of paper - this money is not growing on trees.
- Please be sure that projectors are being turned off when not in use. Your help in this area is greatly appreciated.
- Lunch - Please show up promptly to receive your students, the organization of the lunchroom and the duty is dependent upon teachers arriving/dropping their students off in a timely manner. Thank you!
GAPSC Certification - (ALL Certificated Employees) - Here are the Basics, More information to Come
- Ongoing, job-embedded professional learning is required for all certificated employees, beginning immediately;
- To provide evidence of this, PLPs and PLGs will be developed by and uploaded to the platform by each certificated employee;
- Successful progress toward goals and plans will be monitored in the TLE Platform;
- All PLGs should include specific “learning” activities to help reach goals that are set;
- Principals will rate PLP/PLG progress through Component Ratings (due April 30, 2018); and
- When filing for certificate renewals, HR will attest that professional learning requirements have been met , which will be based on attestations from principals that successful progress or completion has occurred.

Making Moves at McAllister
- Hats off to Ms. Shultz and Ms. Tucker - You all made volunteer orientation seamless!
- Ms. Smith and Ms. Linton have shown that if plan A doesn't work then Plans - B, C or even D have to be executed to provide their students the very best! These two ladies are making a difficult job look like a walk in the park!
- The going got tough earlier this week and Ms. Fesperman was the woman for the job! Thank you for being flexible and diving in to support a student in need!
- Coach Anderson, Coach Moon and the K Paras are always up for a challenge - They made the firedrill with our K students look easy and it was mighty orderly! Well Done!
- The snack cart was well received - A special thank you to the lady behind the scenes, Ms. Lacey Craven. She's got this creativity thing down to a science!
A look ahead....
You made it all the way to the end! Thank you for reading through it ALL!
