Panther Post
February 5th - February 10th
Hello Lopez Families,
We have a long one today but I don't want you to miss everything below, so please scroll through today so you don't miss some important information, such as the annual Ian's Cup and soccer clinic.
This past saturday, our academic UIL team competed for the district championship and blew away the field. What do I mean by blew away? Out of the 7 schools we competed against, we scored 708 out the total 1750 points given. That is 40 % of the total points. We more than doubled the 2nd place team in points. Way to go UIL team! Check out the pic below! I loved hearing every Lopez name called out, over and over.
Last Tuesday I went to watch our band and orchestra play during the Spurs game. They sounded incredible! Check out the pics below. Greg Popovich called our orchestra director afterwards and told her how nice they played. That is pretty cool!
Wednesday night I watched our girls sweep Harris in basketball. They are so fun to watch, very skilled and they have such good sportsmanship.
Thursday night I went to the PTA Foundations Day event. It was a nice dinner and celebration for our Lifetime PTA membership award recipients and they had great performances by Lee High School who hosted the event. I love our PTA!
Friday night I went downtown to see our students' award ceremony for the Scholastic Arts with seven of our artists winning awards. That is impressive to have so many.
This Saturday I got to see some amazing basketball as we hosted the 8th grade tournament and drove over to see our 7th grade boys as well. This is probably the most fun year for boys basketball with both grade levels being so amazing. Go Panthers!
Well other than that, I wasn't that busy. Just kidding, I love working at a school that is so talented in every asset.
Don't forget about our upcoming talent show! It will be Tuesday, February 13th following the PTA meeting at 6:30pm.
Check out the Family Engagement Smore from the district to provide you with resources and opportunities for family engagement. Click Here
Also, check out the amazing student Franco De Silva and his D'Slippa invention on Northeast 360 click here. He is a really nice kid with a great invention that you just have to see!
We also got a very generous gift from Church Unlimited who rents out our facilities for their services every Sunday. They present me with a $1000 check just to say thank you. What a wonderful partner! Picture is below during the check presentation while I was thanking the congregation and Pastor Neuman. That help out our school all the time.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

LEAD
Begin With the End in Mind. When students begin with the end in mind, they have a personal direction to guide their daily activities. Without some sort of direction, they may not accomplish what is needed. Beginning with the end in mind is part of the process of personal leadership, taking control of our own lives.
When you think about it, all things we do are created twice. Teens create them first in their minds, and then they work to bring them into physical existence. If teens would Visualize/write out the idea they would be taking the first step in controlling and being responsible for the outcome. Example: x to y by when. Run in the Autism Awareness Run--I will be able to run a 5k in under an hour by the Autism Awareness Run 2018 by exercising 30 min. 5 times a week.

9th Annual Ian's Cup
Ian's Foundation was formed in memory of Ian Fincke who tragically passed away at the age of 16, in October of 2008 as the result of fatal wounds sustained during a skateboarding accident. Ian was a previous student at Hardy Oak Elementary, Barbara Bush Middle School and both Reagan and Johnson High Schools. The foundation was formed to advance the safety and welfare of San Antonio youth through education and scholarship awards. To date over $40,000 in scholarships has been awarded. Ian's Foundation also promotes helmet safety in the San Antonio and surrounding area and supports STRAPS (South Texas Regional and Paralympic Sports). STRAPS was inspired by Ian's Foundation as a way to allow anyone in San Antonio with physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the game of soccer. You can read more about the foundation at www.IansFoundation.org.
We will be offering our annual spring soccer clinic for the San Antonio youth as one of our major fundraisers for the Ian's Cup scholarship fund. The clinic will be held on Sunday, March 4th at the Mays YMCA from 2-4PM (with registration from 1:30-2:00) The cost of the clinic is $30 if pre-registered and $35 the day of the clinic. It will include a 2hr clinic as well as a 2018 Ian's Cup t-shirt. The deadline for t-shirt pre-orders and pre-registration for the soccer clinic to ensure a 2018 Ian's Cup t-shirt the day of the clinic is Sunday, February 18th but pre-registration for the clinic will remain open through Saturday, March 3rd at 6PM. Trainers will include local high school coaches, club trainers and high school soccer players from Johnson and Reagan, as they must volunteer at one of the foundation's community service events to be eligible for a scholarship. You can read more about the events at www.IansCup.org.
