Welcome back to school!

Taking the World by Storm

It's been a fantastic start to the school year. Our teachers and staff are motivated more than ever after an inspiring Opening Day with Dr. Maestas and administration. A powerful performance from our talented students and VPA department shared a strong message - we all face difficult challenges in our lives; it is how we respond to them that will help shape who we are. Throughout the year we'll be sharing stories from students and staff that exemplify this year's theme - Taking the World by Storm.

Wishing our students, staff, and families a fantastic 2019-2020 school year!

Global Learning Program

We're looking for host families to take part in our global learning exchange program! We are preparing to welcome students from Collegio San Carlo in Milan, Italy for short immersion visits this October and November.

The goal of the program is for students and families to engage in a one-to-one exchange model - to have the same families reciprocate hosting on each side. In spring 2020, Plymouth students will have the opportunity to study in Milan.

The opportunity is currently available to PPS 8th grade students and 10th & 11th grade students. Fill out the form at bitly.com/PPSstudyItaly to receive more information. *Exchange details and application will be sent via email early next week to those who are interested.*

Imagination Movers Returns to Plymouth!

The Emmy Award-Winning kids show Imagination Movers returns to Plymouth for ONE SHOW at Memorial Hall on Saturday, Sept 14th at 2pm. Last year's concert helped raise funds to start a scholarship in the Plymouth School System for kids who can't afford private music lessons, courtesy of non-profit Plymouth Rocks Events. "Music has been my life ever since I took drum lessons as a kid, and we're excited to help kids in need create a path in the arts" says Plymouth Rocks Executive Director Mike Gioscia.

A great time for the whole family AND an awesome way to help out the Plymouth Music Programs as well!

“Only One You”

Ms. Leach’s fourth graders read the book “Only One You.” The words are simple and comforting and meant to guide the readers through the world around them as they explore. They talked about being unique and staying true to our own selves.

The students then got a chance to design a rock (much like the illustrations in this book).

“There is only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place!” -Linda Kranz, Only One You

SES Cub Coins

SES started the school year with tons of excitement as they rolled out a new positive behavior program school-wide where students earn "Cub Coins" for demonstrating expected behaviors, kindness, and leadership. The enthusiasm in the building is contagious as classes are filling their classroom and grade level containers, working toward a whole-school incentive voted on by students!

Welcome Back

Seven hundred and ten bright-eyed, shiny-faced, eager middle schoolers entered through the doors of Plymouth South Middle School last week where they were met by a new administrative team and excited staff. Sixth graders were welcomed by their homeroom teachers at the front door while the experienced upperclassmen greeted old friends as they scurried right to their lockers. Smiles were seen everywhere. All in all, the first day of school earned two thumbs up! Congratulations on a smoothly run first two weeks of school to the admin team of Principal Murphy and Vice Principals Dr. Grant and Mr. Gaignard.

A Snapshot of Bolivian Culture

Señora Sullivan's 8th-grade Spanish class learned how important lunch is in the Bolivian culture. Students leave school to eat with their families either at home or at a restaurant. Teachers are highly respected, sports are played by all, and there are seven meals a day! PSMS students even received a Bolivian memento. Thank you to student Lenox Ciberay's mother Nazarena Garron Ciberay and grandmother Sonia Garron for giving us such an interesting view of another culture.

Academic Excellence at Plymouth North High School

Our new Main Hallway displays celebrate Academic Excellence at Plymouth North High School over the course of the last year.

In November, our students personally wrote over a thousand “shout outs” for staff members at North because of the positive impact they’ve had on them and their learning. In February, our teachers returned the recognition, celebrating “Effort February” by nominating students for recognition based on the three categories of “Academic Enthusiasm”, “Grit” and being a “Classroom Team Player”. We selected just a few of these November “shout outs to staff” and “Effort February” recognitions to herald the Academic success and hard work that we have across the diverse students and staff in our building!
