Greetings Charger Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing fall break. We have three and a half weeks before Thanksgiving break, which begins on Wednesday, November 25. As you know, Covid - 19 cases are on the rise in Indiana. Please help us in keeping our students and staff safe by wearing masks, washing your hands, and socially distancing. We have been very fortunate thus far due to your awesome efforts. Thank you! Remember, if your child is sick, please keep them home and have them log into class virtually.
Next Tuesday is the 2020 Presidential election. We recognize that there are very strong beliefs for our political parties, which has caused divisiveness in our country. The media continues to report that there may be a strong backlash/outrage based upon the election results. Not all of our students may be as tuned in as others; however, please consider discussing our current political climate with your student as they may be feeling anxious or unsettled.
As a school, one of our Charger Pride character traits is RESPECT, and we will continue discussing the need to be respectful of each other, regardless of beliefs, and allow for civil discourse. We can agree to disagree and remain courteous. As Maya Angelou writes, “I note the obvious differences between each sort and type, but we are more alike, my friends, than unalike.”
Thank you for sending the very best students and being a great partner in this unprecedented educational journey.
Dr. Crystal Thorpe, FJH Principal
Picture Retake Day
Photographers will be at FJH on Wednesday, November 4th to photograph any students who wish to have their picture retaken or taken for the first time.
Students at school that day are in the blue group and will be called to the auxiliary gym by intercom. Virtual students and/or RED students who wish to have their picture taken or retaken should plan to be at FJH between 9:00 and 11:00.
Please bring your picture packet or proof sheet if desiring a retake.
Thank you!
Mask Mandate Still in Effect
Students must wear a mask when riding the bus and entering the school doors. Students who come to school without a mask are isolated until a mask can be brought in or the student picked up.
Masks were provided to each student earlier in October. A backup mask in the backpack is a suggestion so that your student won't have to miss any instruction time. Thank you!
Who is YMI?
partnership with Hamilton Southeastern Schools, since 2008. YMI partners with our schools to come alongside counselors, teachers, and parents by providing another caring adult to support and encourage the success of each student.
YMI Mentors are adult volunteers that mentor once a week, for one hour, during the school day. Mentors meet one-on-one with students to provide them with a caring and consistent presence in their lives; become a reliable friend; a role model; and simply someone they can count on. Founded on the knowledge that kids need 4-6 non-parental adults supporting them through their developmental years, mentoring can have a profound impact on a
YMI mentors are a vital resource not only to HSE Schools initiatives to further the social and
emotional well-being of their students but also to parents looking for additional support. Every week, approximately 300 mentors visit students in Fishers schools, offering encouragement and being an example of why Fishers continues to excel in the quest for a vibrant community!
YMI mentoring is currently offered in the following nine schools: Fall Creek Intermediate, Fall
Creek Junior High, Fishers Junior High, Fishers High School, Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate Junior High, Hamilton Southeastern High School, Riverside Intermediate, Riverside Junior High, Sand Creek Intermediate. Mentoring times vary according to the students schedule and can be accommodating to the mentor’s work schedule!
If you have an hour a week to spend with a student, we’d love for you to consider joining us! Students can be recommended by counselors, teachers and parents by completing a recommendation form on the YMI website.
