HEALTH CARE
Should all Americans have a right to basic health care?
MY STATEMENT
i think all americans should have a right to basic health care because if not everybody had it people wouldnt have money because they would be waisting money on people who are getting hurt
BARACK OBAMA
Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States, stated the following during an NBC-hosted presidential debate held on Oct. 7, 2008 in Nashville, TN, and transcribed and posted by CNN.com: "...I think it [health care] should be a right for every American. In a country as wealthy as ours, for us to have people who are going bankrupt because they can't pay their medical bills -- for my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in the hospital room arguing with insurance companies because they're saying that this may be a pre-existing condition and they don't have to pay her treatment, there's something fundamentally wrong about that." MITT ROMNEY
Mitt Romney (R) - Not Clearly Pro or Con Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts, stated the following in the Aug. 11, 2011 Fox News/Republican Party of Iowa presidential candidate debate in Ames, IA: “What we did in our state was this. We said, look, we're finding people that can afford insurance, health insurance, that are going to the hospital and getting the state to pay for them. Taxpayers are picking up hundreds of millions of dollars of costs from people who are free riders. We said, you know what? We're going to insist that those people who can afford to pay for themselves do so. We believe in personal responsibility. And if the people aren't willing to do that, then they're going to help the government pay for them. That was our conclusion.” Aug. 11, 2011 Mitt Romney
