Olson Elementary
In-Person Learning: What You Need to Know
Welcome Back
Things to Bring to School Daily
Student ID cards
All students have been issued a student ID card with a lanyard. They will wear these daily for checking out books, buying lunch, etc.
Masks
Kinder-3rd Grade
Will be highly encouraged to wear masks. All K-3 students who ride the bus will be required to wear masks while waiting to board and while riding the bus.
4th Grade- 6th Grade
Are required to wear masks. Mask breaks will be scheduled into the day and will also include recess and lunch.
School supplies
Please send your child's school supplies with them on September 2. You can find this list on the Olson website.
Technology
If you were issued a device from the school, please send it to school with your student everyday. Your child will use this device during the school day and it will be sent back home each night.
Parents are encouraged to send their child with their own device to use for instruction as well. This may include a Chromebook, a laptop, or an iPad. However, the school will not be responsible for any damages to personal devices.
If you did not check out a school device, there will be a device at the school for your student to use during the school day if you do not send a personal device with him/her.
Please make sure your child knows their login and password. If they do not, we may have to reset their password here at school.
K-1 Students - change of clothes
Please make sure that you send a change of clothes with your child in case of any accidents. We have a very limited amount of clothes that a child could be given and we no longer can accept the clothing items back after they are sent home.
Water Bottle
We are asking that all students district wide bring a water bottle with them to school daily. Our water fountains will not be open, however we have installed several water bottle filler stations throughout the building for them to fill up their drinks. Be sure to write your child's name on their water bottle.
Snacks
Please send a snack with your child each day.
Arrival
See the map below for our new arrival procedures.
Please know that we will not be able to utilize our Safety Patrol to open car doors for students. Please make sure your child knows how to unbuckle and open the car door on their own.
We also recommend that your children are sitting on the passenger side of the car so they are able to exit your car on the sidewalk.
At 7:30 our building doors will be open and teachers will be waiting for students at their doors. Students will go directly to their rooms unless they are picking up a “grab and go” breakfast in the cafeteria. In that case, students will stop by the cafeteria to pick up breakfast and then head to their classroom. Staff will be on hand to assist students in finding their classrooms on the first day of school.
Hand Washing / Sanitizing
The district has placed hand sanitizer in every classroom, at the entrances, and throughout common spaces.
Students are expected to use the hand sanitizer as they enter the room and exit the room. Teachers will remind students to “FIFO” - foam in, foam out.
Students will wash their hands after using the restroom and as needed throughout the day.
Learning Environment
Olson teachers will arrange classroom desks to maximize space between students.
Olson will use visual aids to illustrate appropriate spacing and traffic flow throughout the building.
We are also limiting mixing between cohort groups as much as possible. However if your child receives any special services ( SPED, ELL, DT, SSI, AIM.etc.) they could be served with additional students to meet their instructional needs.
Tables will be wiped down and disinfected in between groups during small group instruction.
Specials
Students will continue to attend their special classes: art, music, and PE.
If there is an activity where students must use shared supplies, these will be cleaned in between uses.
Lunch
At this time all students will be able to eat in the cafeteria, as our enrollment numbers allow us to keep them socially distanced. However, this could change at any time depending on the number of students participating in In-Person learning.
Students will be spaced 6 feet apart, which means there will only be 3 students to a cafeteria table at this time.
Lunch visitors and lunch deliveries are not permitted at AISD elementary campuses at this time.
Recess
Classes will not "mix" with other cohorts at recess.
We have designated 4 different "zones" in which classes will play during recess.
We have also purchased additional recess equipment including balls, jump ropes, and more that students will be able to use during recess time.
The high touch areas of the playground equipment will be sanitized between each class.
For now, students are not permitted to bring recess equipment from home.
Students will learn and practice strategies to promote social distancing at recess.
Students will not be required to wear masks outdoors during recess.
Visitors
Deliveries/Dropping off Items
We are not able to accept deliveries for students during this time. This includes forgotten homework, backpacks, electronic devices, etc.If your child leaves their lunch at home, we will ensure that they have a lunch from the cafeteria.
Delivery exceptions will be made for items that are required for student learning such as glasses and hearing devices.
Student Birthdays
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
All staff will wear face coverings.
Students
4-6- These students are required to wear masks except during lunch, recess, and mask breaks.
K-3- We encourage these students to wear masks except during lunch, recess, and mask breaks.
Personal Items
Please write your child's name on their personal items, including reusable water bottles, lunchboxes, backpacks, and jackets. This will increase the likelihood that lost items are returned.
Nurse/Medicine
Please drop off medicine for your child BEFORE September 2nd. Contact Nurse Krista at Krista.Lewis@allenisd.org. Krista will make specific arrangements with you.
If you are unable to drop off before Sept. 2nd, please contact Nurse Krista to schedule your drop off for another time.
Reminders from Nurse Krista:
Please make sure that inhalers are in their original box with the prescription.
- Prescription medications require paper work signed by a doctor and parent. Link to form
Dismissal
Dismissal will be similar to our previous system. If you are walking to school to pick up your child, you will wait for your student in a designated Parent Pickup Area. A staff member will assist you. Parent Pickup areas are reflected in our map below and will have clear signage.
We ask that parents who are picking up in cars, do not park and walk to the Parent Pickup Area. Please drive through the car line to pick up your child. This will assist us with limiting the number of people on campus.
Car tags were sent home with student supply distribution. If you did not receive a car tag please contact our receptionist Kelly Graham at Kelly.Graham@allenisd.org prior to the first day of school to arrange a time to pick up your car tag.
