Good evening Sierra Madre Families, this is Mrs. Lewis, your principal. Thank you SO much to the PTA crew under the leadership of Vanessa Caulfield and Angel Ting, for putting together such an amazing Jog-a-thon! The kids were excited to be outside and the weather was perfect!

Monday, March 7th we will have our BRAVO morning assembly starting at 7:50am. If you got an email saying your K-2 kiddo is getting an award, please meet at the field gate on Hermosa at 7:48am.

Jog a Thon
Your kiddos did such an amazing job running in our PTA Jog-a-Thon. Well done! And, the fun isn't over yet though, because you still have until Friday to collect pledges to help us reach our fundraising goal of $40,000!! Details on how to submit funds are in the SMORE.
Talent Show
The talent show is back in person this year, and if your kiddos are interested in displaying their talent on stage in our beautiful auditorium, please see the smore with details on our two show-us-your-act - days in March.

SEED is recognizing National Developmental Disabilities Month! Check out the SEED resource guide in the Smore and Wednesday folder to learn more about the fight for Disabilities Rights. SEED highlights Disability Rights leaders Judy Heumann and Haben Girma. Learn about Raymond Hu, a recognized artist with Down syndrome who fights for environmental rights through his paintings.

After this meeting, PUSD will put out a communication to explain next steps, starting the week of March 14th.
COVID Screening and Testing at SME
Please STAY HOME if you have ANY symtoms.
Screening Questions Daily before coming to school
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
On PUSD campuses(SME) weekly testing, on Thursdays, is available for ALL students and staff.

We are holding at 86% of students registered.
STEPS to follow if you get a POSITIVE COVID test result
1. Immediately isolate from all others(family, school, sports, after-school enrichment and daycare)
2. Contact Mrs. Lewis/Ms. Rupp to notify POS results
3. Expect a phone call/contact from Health Department for specific information and quarantine next steps
4. Receive a short-term independent study agreement from SME
5. Complete assigned school work, if feeling well
6. Call and/or contact school/teacher if any questions
STEPS to follow if you are requesting and Independent Study(IS) Agreement
1. Send an email to your kid's teacher and Mrs. Lewis to request an IS agreement
2. Include which days you are agreeing to work remotely on the Canvas work posted by the teacher.
3. Include if you are choosing to do an IS or if you are needing to, due to an exposure or POSITIVE COVID-19 lab confirmed PCR test.
*If your kiddo is fully vaccinated, they will NEED to test at school, or outside of school with a PCR lab-confirmed test EVERY week, in order to bypass quarantine guidelines!

Well, that was an amazing day, wasn't it?! Thank you to all of the kiddos for putting their best effort into running SO. MANY. LAPS! And thank you to the volunteers who made it all happen, especially Vanessa Caulfield and Angel Ting.
Now it's time to get all of those pledges in! Final funds are due on Friday, March 11th on the FundHub: https://bit.ly/smeruns or by cash or check (written to SME PTA) to be turned in by hand on Friday in front of the school between 4:30 pm and 6 pm.
Our school fundraising goal is $40,000, and you can help us reach it!

*SME Has Talent! - Show Us Your Act On March 14/15*
The Talent Show is back! SME’s talented kids will perform in person on April 16th, and performers of all types - singers, dancers, musicians, magicians, comedians, emcees, and more - are encouraged to participate. Details are available on the attached flyer, which you’ll need to complete and bring to Show Us Your Act day on either March 14th @ 1-3:30 pm or 15th @ 2:30-5:00 pm!
Note: Your act doesn't have to be polished and perfect, just together enough to give us a sense of what you're doing. If you show us your act, you will have a spot in the show!
COVID Guidelines:
As of this writing, performers (unless they are playing a wind instrument) will be masked and audience members will be required to both mask and show proof of vaccination (or negative COVID test), per PUSD guidelines.

We have been conducting weekly vaccination clinics on Mondays in the south parking lot at the Ed Center. Please share the clinic registration link with your school community to make appointments to get their students vaccinated or boosted.

I hope that this message finds you well. I’d like to introduce you to Maggie Angon, our PPHD Promotora Lead. Maggie heads our department group of Promotoras (community health workers), who educate and inform the community of various Public Health initiatives, including COVID-19 vaccinations. You may have seen Maggie and her wonderful team of ambassadors around town – at vaccination clinics, farmer’s markets, community events, schools, and more! They work at meeting our community where they are, and encouraging trust in Public Health to reduce health disparities.
