Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!

This week, May 3-7th is teacher & staff appreciation week! Our staff at SBUSD has worked so hard this year with all the changes and movement to online and in person learning. If you have time this week have your student write a note or card to a person at school that has helped them and made them smile. It these words of kindness that remind everyone why working in the schools is so important. Thank you for letting our staff know they are appreciated!

Important Upcoming Dates:

May 3-28th - CAASPP testing for 3-8th grade students (days vary)

May 13 - SBUSD Board Meeting, Latinx Inspiration Night (HCOE)

May 10-23 - South Bay Online Book Fair

Latinx Inspiration Night

HCOE's Latinx Inspiration Night, hosted by Agustín Amaro, is May 13 from 5:00-6:30. The focus for the evening is to inform Latinx families of the value and importance of attending college. The event will be in Spanish with English translation available.

Self-Screening

Please remember all students that come on campus must be screened at home using the Qualtrics daily screening. This is emailed to the student email accounts daily. There is an option to add a parent cell phone number to receive a morning text with the survey. The questions have been updated so please read through them carefully before replying.

One of the new questions on the survey asks about non-essential travel. If your child has traveled outside of the state of California within the last 14 days on non-essential travel, we ask that they stay home and quarantine prior to coming back onto campus. If marked "yes" the survey will direct you to contact the site principal to determine a return to campus date. Thank you so much for ensuring student safety as we return to on-campus learning.

If you have any questions please contact Mr. Grimmett at 707-273-2113 at Pine Hill, or Mrs. Becksted at 707-296-8776 at South Bay. Thank you.

Kindergarten Enrollment Continues

We are continuing to enroll students for kindergarten at Pine Hill School. If you have a student of kindergarten age or know a family looking for an excellent kindergarten program for their child, please check out this informative article about our program. We'd appreciate your help by sharing this newsletter or the article with prospective families. Contact the school at 443-4596 for more information about kindergarten enrollment.

Box Tops Program Still Alive & Kickin'!

Thank you to all of the parents and teachers who are still scanning receipts with the Box Tops app on their phones for credits or clipping the paper Box Tops (although pretty rare to find now!). We earned $124 so far this year for new books for the libraries! If you don't have time to scan your own receipts...no problem. Please turn them in to your child's teacher or at the school's front office and they will be put in my box for me to scan. We are also still accepting paper Box Tops clips if you still have them!

PTSA needs YOU!

We are currently looking for new PTSA leadership, as the current leadership team has completed their 2-year commitment. If you are interested in being a part of PTSA please contact Tim Grimmett or Heather Becksted and we'd be happy to give you more information.

Site Council Openings

There are openings on South Bay's two Site Councils. South Bay meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, and South Bay Charter meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The commitment is about an hour a month.

Help each school develop plans to improve the educational experience for all of our students. Contact Heather Becksted (South Bay) for more information.
