Special Valentine's Day Information
Valentine's Day festivities will take place on Wednesday! We will be exchanging valentines PRIOR to the party, so please make sure your child has his/her valentine box and valentines with them at the start of the school day on Wednesday. Just a friendly reminder that the valentines cannot include any edible items.
Wednesday is regular day with regular dismissal times. Please make sure to send a snack and a lunch as usual. *IF* there is a change in your child’s normal end of the day transportation on Wednesday, please send a hard copy note to me. This includes if a party volunteer (other than the parent/guardian) will be driving a child home. We will NOT be able to accommodate those requests without a written note that includes the alternate person's first and last name. Party helpers, I will have a sign out sheet for you during the party if you plan to take your child home with you (Party helpers will also be able to sign out siblings in their classroom also).
Party helpers: You will have access to the classroom beginning at 1:20 to allow time for any necessary set up. The party will begin at 1:30. Looking forward to a great time! :)
A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, writers learned that they say hello with an introduction and say goodbye with a conclusion, just like we did with our How To books! Students worked on writing a catchy introduction to their All About books. For example, if they were writing all about spaghetti, they could start with a question...Do you like pasta? If so, you should learn all about spaghetti! Students also learned how to say goodbye with a conclusion. At the end of their book, they can say something like...Now that you've learned all about spaghetti, you should learn all about lasagna!
Math:This week, students took the end of module 3 assessment, which checked in on their knowledge of measurement and graphing. Next week we will begin module 4, which begins with a focus on place value. Students will learn how to identify a 2 digit number as tens and ones. For example, they will learn that the number 43 is composed of 4 tens and 3 ones. We will use linking cubes to model this concept.
Word Study: This week, we worked with long u words and what happens when a word has a "Momma e" at the end. We worked with words such as rule, cute, flute, mule, etc. Next week, we will work with long o with a silent e.
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! Students will be exchanging Valentines with their classmates. They can create a mailbox at home to hold their Valentines. Details are below! Please make sure your child includes a Valentine for every student to avoid hurt feelings. No edible items on Valentines can be included. Please have your child choose Valentines that do NOT include candy attachments. Please make sure valentines and mailboxes are here a the start of the day on February 14 (You can also send them in early!) Thank you!
