January 2020 Recap
A Message from the Principal's Desk:
Greetings Kingsway Community! I hope that each and every one of you is off to a fantastic new year. KRMS students are eagerly awaiting their new elective classes as we begin the third marking period on February 3rd. February is packed with school-wide events and is sure to keep our student body engaged. Over 375 tickets were sold for our annual 8th grade semi formal dance. The dance this year has a Hollywood/Red Carpet theme, and the students seem excited for the event. On February 13th, our annual Black History Month event entitled, "The African American Experience", will take place. Our entire student body will be involved in the event. The 8th graders will be hard at work over the next few weeks preparing their projects, and our seventh graders will get the opportunity to see their presentations as will parents and community members. Finally, the month will conclude with our upcoming second marking period Renaissance celebration. This celebration will take place on Friday, February 21st; hopefully, we will set a new school record for students in attendance. The record to beat is 486! Encourage your child to get involved and have a great month!
Communication
#1DragonFamily: A special thanks goes out to the 33 students who gave up their time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to make sandwiches for a local food bank; these students epitomized the month's character trait--Citizenship. As we move into the month of February, we will highlight the character trait of "fairness" school-wide.
Marking Period Grades: Keep in mind that the marking period will end on January 31st, and report cards will be available online on February 10th. Conferences with your child's team may occur Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and should be scheduled through our Guidance Department. Please do not hesitate to contact the Guidance Department at any time if you would like to schedule a conference.
Renaissance Program: Our second Renaissance card holder celebration will be on Friday, February 21st. To find out more about the program, please click on the following link: www.krsd.org/renaissance
State Testing Window: Standardized state testing will be administered from May 11 to May 15, 2020. Students will be tested by grade level, and a detailed schedule as to when your child will be testing is forthcoming.

Miscellaneous
Activity Calendar: On the left hand side of the Kingsway home page, you will find a calendar indicating when each of our clubs and activities will be taking place. http://www.tricountyconferencenj.org/g5-bin/client.cgi?G5genie=347&school_id=12
Math Working Lunch: Please encourage your student to utilize our Math Working Lunch Program if he/she needs some extra assistance in math. During the math working lunch, teachers will clarify questions and provide extra math practice time in a small class setting as students eat their lunch. Math teachers are available every lunch period to assist your child; please encourage them to ask for a pass to attend. Just a reminder, this program should be strictly used on an as-needed basis.
PowerSchool Contact Information: Please make sure to update your contact information in PowerSchool in "School Messenger", if your phone or email address changes. We rely heavily on the information in that system when communicating to our parents. If you have any questions, please contact the Guidance Office at extension 3095. Finally, please double check your spam folder to be sure that our communication from the school is not landing in that location.
Field Trip: Please be advised that students with more than 8 unexcused absences, students who owe obligations, and students who have lost their good student standing 3 or more times will not be permitted to attend their class field trip.
